Is there a diff between the sport package (540/530) and non-sport only appearance/styling or is it performance as well? thank you!

2000 540i 6 speed manual, is this a sport package? or not necessarily.
I would say performance as well, since the sports package offers the better suspension deal.
It's a 6speed so it automatically came with the sports package. Lowered sport suspension, 17in wheels, shadowline trim, ///M shifter and steering wheel, etc.
Link us to the ad so we can check it out too! Thats exactly the same mileage and price they were asking for my '00 540 6speed when I bought it in June.

If you click on the PARKED FAQ (its like the 3rd link down on the e39 home page)...there is a link in that thread that has ALL of the standard & optional features for every e39 model from 1997-2002. I think it titled "model information" and is about the 6th link down once you open the FAQ thread.
Its not hard to find...just scroll down the FAQ page.

Drive them both, the question will be answered VERY quickly. The 540 is such a blast to drive. I bought mine for $15k just outside of Boston at a Herb Chambers Mercedes dealer.

Read up on the FAQs about these cars and what you need to check when buying (cooling system, etc). This site has just about everything you'll ever need to know about these cars. I cant tell what wheels those are, but you could have a twin to me. It'll be good to have another 540 BF.c member in New England!

again, thanx for the replies. yeah i figure the 540 will be more of a thrill to drive.
I can't tell from the angle of the pic. But its really easy to tell once you go check it out. It'll have the ///M wheels, shifter, and steering wheel. And I'm not sure, but I believe all 6sps are sport??? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Anyways like ppl are saying, go check it out and drive it. But before you commit to it, check into the systems that like to fail on this car. Do some research and you'll easily find out what they are.

I heard the 540 manuals are harder to sell than the autos. how credible is this, in case i buy and want to re-sell later?
I'm just guessing that its because ALOT of people today don't know how to drive a standard shift car, or they just want to be able to talk on phone, put on makeup, eat etc. Maybe they just don't want to deal with the hassle of shifting in their daily commute. But there are still people out there that will buy your car if you decide to resell. I know when I was shopping for a car I wouldn't even look at the car if it was an auto tranny. So i say don't even worry about when it comes time to resell. Just go with the 6/5 speed if thats what you prefer to drive.
