    Lightbulb BMW LS1 candidates FOR SALE thread

    I started this thread to link to BMWs for sale that look to be good LS1 candidates, namely ones without motors. I'm constantly looking at or being referred to these, for our own uses, our customers and the BMW community. Figured since we've cross-posted others in this sub-forum that we might as well start a single thread for "candidates" we see posted for sale and just add to it as more come along... ?

    The posting of the 2000 M Roadster in this sub-forum last week worked wonders - it sold to someone who saw it here (someone we know; I'm going with him this weekend to pick it up) for an LSX swap. There have been others we helped promote on other forums that turned into LS1 candidates as well (Matt P's '95 M3/LS1 swap). So, I hope we can add links to this thread and maybe sticky it? We'll see if that request is warranted. Please just post links to BMWs you see for sale that look like good LS1 candidates (BMWs with no motors, theft recoveries, etc). CraigsList, Bimmerforums, eBay, whatever - link it. Thanks!

    =================

    Here's my first entry, as forwarded to me: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...d.php?t=929642

    It seems to be a cage with a '95 M3 rolling chassis attached. Its probably a good buy at $3500, seeing that he spent $3000 on the cage. No comments on the cage or welds, please... we don't need to start that. I know nothing more about this car for sale. Follow the link and ask your questions there.

    =================

    And my "wish list"... if you see anything like this for sale, please link it!!!

    WANTED TO BUY:

    • E46 Coupe with no motor/transmission
    • E92 Coupe with no motor/transmission
    • E36/8 M Coupe with no motor/transmission

    The first step is admitting you have a problem...

    Not a coupe but may be a potential candidate.

    Anyone in Sf bay area want a Free, rolling clean title e34 shell, black/black with nice carpet, nice glass and no rust? This would be very ideal for LS1 project, it has brakes and suspension intact even -interior is stripped and driveline is removed for my 525itA->M swap

    I'll include a beer as well. Pink slip in hand, bring a trailer and 4 wheels to roll it on (i need to keep my spares)

    "This car has no title..."

    That car is what they call "stolen"

    Ahh, and I see the ad was finally deleted by the original poster (or the police).

    E92 coupe

    Hey Fair,

    First off, I have to say that you're work on the LS1 Bimmers is outstanding. It's become of a hobby of mine just to check in on your progress.

    The reason I'm writing is that I'm quite smitten by the E92 Coupe. Since this is much newer than the Bimmers you typically see for LSX swaps, do you see any problems that this new-generation BMW may pose that you don't have to worry about with the older ones? Or is it too early to ask since you haven't done one yet?

    My concern is that everything in a car has a computer it seems like, even more so than just 10 years ago. I'd rather not lose any functionality if it's all possible.

    I am equally smitten by the E92 Coupe!

    We are always searching for an E92 coupe with a damage motor/title/chassis for the very purpose of doing an LS1 swap (also E46 coupe). If any of you see an E46 or E92 coupe that is "distressed" and priced right for a swap candidate, please PM me before posting it here! We've just barely missed out on two E46 coupes sold for under $2000 in the past month. One of these days we'll nab one and then we're gonna be knee deep in the next swap.

    Both of these chassis have a lot more computers than the E36, and the CAN wiring interface is the big challenge for a motor swap, yes. We have a friend that's a BMW wiring wizard and as soon as we (Vorshlag & DP) can get the drivetrain/exhaust/plumbing stuffed into in one of these we'll bring in the big guns for wiring help... So no, this is not a swap I would just jump right into unless you were a well trained BMW tech and/or CAN wiring wizard.

    And before you say it, yes, an LS1 powered E92 coupe should be lighter than the E92 M3 (which is a boat). There's just a lot more going on with the M3 V8 size-wise with its DOHC heads, etc.

    I'm always looking! I'm glad this thread is hear for people to post leads.

    Sorry... end of tangent. Keep posting your leads here!

    Great thread idea. Now I've got the inspiration to look for an E36 (or even my 87 E30??) for an LS1 swap. Subscribed.

    I think you should leave this a sticky but lock it and leave a link to a section in the for sale/classified are listed as BMWs For Sale with out motors. I Just think the thread would have no order unless it was atleast broken down by model series e34 e30 e36 etc

    I ,for one, have caged ( 4pt with a 6 pt option) a 91 318is that would be a a perfect candidate for an LS1 swap .
