Starter doesn't want to engage flywheel

Hey Guys, I recently put in a new s50 engine turbo'd and swapped out my auto to a manual tranny. I went to start the car and the starter just spins freely. I took off the starter and bench tested it and it was fine. It seems like the flywheel is too far for the gears to engage? I am at a lost is their a spacer or something that i may have put on wrong to push the flywheel farther away? Any help would be awesome!
    thanks

Are you positive that the starter was installed properly?

Did you install a new clutch/flywheel?

    what clutch and flywheel?

I'm betting that your flywheel doesn't have a big enough diameter for the start teeth to reach it.

Which flywheel do you have in there presently? Did you try to keep the one from your automatic transmission?

    ok.

go measure the diameter of your flywheel from tooth to tooth.

Which tranny are you using? ZF or Getrag?

    Unfortunately no man.

It sounds like your starter isn't engaging, do you have another one to try?
