I really miss the days of N/A.

It saddens me that every stupid manufacturer is resorting to forced induction now just to keep up with the horsepower wars. Focus on lightness and power, not power and toys.

BMW unveiled its all-new twin-turbo 4.4L V8 engine at the Detroit Auto Show. What sets this engine apart from the V6 is that "each turbo makes use of fixed geometry and relatively simple wastegates."

    Umm, BMW made a V6?

This engine is going in the SUVs and 5/6/7 series. Don't worry about weight too much.

Believe it or not, they are making turbo engines now to increase fuel economy for their higher powered cars.

Agreed. Lightness and handling is an even better focus.

Lotus is the last hope for such a thing.

You are sadly mistaken if you think Lotus is the only company making lightweight sports cars.

Are you kidding? My 335 is TT... 300hp... no hp wars here. The Z06 is one of the biggest HP cars out there, 500, N/A. Ferrari, Lamborghini-- they are all N/A. In fact, light, small displacement cars with little snails are going to become very fashionable as far as economy goes. The HUGE 6,7,8 Liter engines are going to be a thing of the past.

Ferrari and lambo are good examples, but the Z06 is using a pushrod 7.3. It's as huge as a big-block.

I mean more compact, think less than 5.0.

You are right though. I think it will reach a point of implosion.

a 300hp small sedan is too fat.

    I'd prefer a 180hp e30.

Big engines not working hard give better MPG than small engines working hard as hell.

The Z06 can get almost 30 mog on the highway and that is insane.

BMW, like all other makers, puts on those huge ugly plastic covers anyway, so it took me a while to see anything obviously wrong other than the N64 logo. I finally realized it was an e36/9 engine compartment after a while, the one head gave it away. lol

If that is an E36, it doesn't look like any E36 I have seen before then.
