Can the diagram be found in the Bentley manual? If so, I'd be happy to check it for you sometime this weekend.
I'm sure you've probably already done this... but my drivers side went out... and I simply found it to be a loose connection. Gotta love it when it's such an easy fix sometimes.
I'll follow up with this thread over the weekend.
lates.
The passenger side is def. not getting power. I don't have access to a BMW manual of any sorts so I need the input of others.

Why don't you go buy a Bentley manual, it has all of the wiring diagrams. Then you'd have it for all of your other repair issues as well.

JedzE36.. if you do scan the foglight installation instructions, please e-mail me a copy. I would be most grateful!
I say you just follow the wires back until you find the problem, that is usually the case, My fog lights weren't working and then i just traced the wires back. Alot of times it is a break in the wiring, and you just have to splice it back together.
are you doing an OEM job or did you rig it to some other source?

does anyone else have this diagram? I'm going to get a service manual but in the meantime I need it.
i'm not getting power to my fog lights. which fan connector to i hook the red terminal 30 wire into?
Hi there, I would also like a wiring diagram for the E36 rear fog lights.
The rear right hand side fog light is working while the rear left one is not working, but cant seem to work out which wires in the harness conenct to which of the metal strips on the rear of the assembly that takes to the electricity to the bulbs.

So pin 1 and 6 connect to the metal strips on the back of the assembly?
What colours are they?
From which end are they numbered?
The fog light bulb being a P21/4W 12V 21/4W BAZ15d (ie the base has offset bayonets on the angle) has two filaments and is the only bulb in the rear light assembly that connects to three metal strips on the rear of the assembly. So there must be another pin that corresponds to this?

Sorry, that was a bit laconic. The pins for the rear fog lights are: pin 1 of the left side tail light assembly and pin 6 of the right side tail light assembly.
Did the factory run wires to both those pins? The paper, 1996 wiring diagram (Prüfanleitung) I am looking at, only shows wiring for the driver's side rear fog light. A 1995 diagram shows wiring for both sides – for ECE cars outside Norway and Sweden. A cost accountant may have deleted some wiring, a couple years before your car was built.

Thanks for the info.
Does your diagram advise of the wire colours?
My car is a 1996 323i, with a 6 cyl 2.5L M52B25 engine, right-hand drive (Australia).
Would you be able to send me a copy of the diagram please?
So maybe left hand side one is not wired... while the driver side one does work ...
Interesting to note that the wire colours on the right and left are different.

You are welcome. Let us know how things turn out.
The UNECE automotive regulations, which I believe Oz subscribes to, allows either one or two rear fog lights. I have seen cars that have a single rear fog light on the driver side, and a single reverse light on the passenger side.
I like to have two rear fog lights as it makes people think you are braking when they come up to you out of thick fog, and that you are closer than they might think otherwise, because they are farther apart than the brake lights. That is the sort of lighting I prefer for driving in the sort of fog, when the best advice is: don't if you can at all avoid it.

The wikipedia entry lists the participants in the UNECE automotive regulations. Australia is country 45.
I will be making enquiries with the NSW roads department ie the RMS for more information regarding this and clarification on this as they do not have all information available on their website.
As all they say is:
Front and rear fog lights must only be used in fog or rain, or when conditions such as smoke and dust limit your vision. It is a legal requirement that once conditions improve and you can see more clearly, the front and rear fog lights are switched off.

Is that from experience?
