....thanks to everyone on the board for doing all of this legwork and compiling an immense amount of useful info for everyone to reference!
I'll definitely try not to replicate any questions that have already been adequately fielded.
Thanks again everyone!

Julian
James, Gumbs,
Just noticed that the "M5 bumper conversion" links are outdated and lack more places where you can get them. It'd really help new members to have that updated, especially given that it is one of the most common questions.

Thank you! As someone about to buy a e39 this will come in handy
Thanks for pointing that out.
It'd be great if someone could track down some good, current info on the topic and post it up. Then I could replace the outdated data, otherwise, I'm just going to delete the question until someone does.
You're welcome.
how can I find out if my car is a sport or not? just wondering cause its a bit lower and has huge brakes.
There should be a build sheet under your rear seat if someone has not already moved it. Just pull up the rear seat cushion and look around it should be right there. Shadow line trim (black instead if chrome around windows) is also a pretty solid indication unless that was modified by a previous owner.
I believe all 540i 6 speeds in the US were sold have the sports package. All but 1997 got the shadow line trim around windows. But to double check you can go to http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html type in the last 7 digits of your VIN which can be found from the front windshield by the steering wheel or in between the door jamb of the drivers door.

My 2001 BMW 530i battery went dead when I replaced it with a new one it won't start?
If someone knows what it could be please let me know.
Parasitic drain? Did u test the old batt? When u say “went dead” what do you mean? There’s a number of things it could be, but if u know u have a brand new perfect battery in there now, there is likely a short and or fried wide somewhere.... if u tried jumping it a bunch worst case u may have fried something... when u turn the key on what happens ? Power up but no crank? Lights ? Air? Anything ? Or dead as a door nail?

My horn keeps shorting out the fuse when I use it. Where is the horn located on the 528i 97?

Also, I cannot find a video to show me how to program my 357 dollar key fob. BMW of San Antonio when I finally got to talk to somebody. They said YouTube it
I’m not sure about the horn, however, I can help with the key!
I had to do this with mine a while back and it took a few tries.
1. Sit in the car with all doors closed
2. Turn the key to position 2 (where gauge cluster turns on) then take it out
3. Hold the unlock button and press 3 times on the lock button
4. The car should lock then unlock again as a confirmation
If there’s any confusion, here’s a YouTube video I found

Is anyone proficient in NCS expert? I’m wondering if it’s possible to delete SAP codes… i know there are easier ways to fix the issue but I’m looking for the cheapest. Any help would be appreciated!
-update-
NCS expert is not capable, but tuner pro is and it is quite easy. MS43 tuning allows for quite a lot of options.
