I don't think you should say anything. If he likes the CTS let him buy it. You could ask if he would be willing to drive other cars before making a final decision. What other cars did he test drive before he settled on the CTS?

    I'd wait until the CTS-V.

Your main competitors for the CTS are the 328i, and the G35 S.

Engine wise, the CTS and G will have more power, but the 3 series inline 6 are THE smoothest six cylinders in the land. Shifts are smooth, yet powerful and respond well to spiritied driving. Amenities also go to the other cars. The hard drives and NAV system in both are better than what you can get in a Bimmer, if that's what he's looking for.

But when it comes to drive and quality, they don't hold a candle to the 3 series. Take a few corners, drive on the highway at high speeds and a few high speed lane changes, too. Try taking a couple hard corners at lower speeds. You'll see the difference. The 3 seems to "fit" better for most. And if he considers the 335i in the mix, then there's no question, 335i sedan or coupe FTW!

    That's all I got.

    A bunch
why the cts 08 is a nice car. Especially the one with the 300+ponies. Now if was looking to get say a 535i that would be a whole different story. In the end the cars sell them self. You test drive, you like, you can afford, you buy/or lease.

I've heard Cadillac designed that car on nurburgring. Isn't the prettiest car on the road, but it's not bad either.

Are you paying for his car? If so good for you. If not, shut the hell up. It's not your place to tell your dad what he should buy.
"Bench racing" about track times driven by professionals are like a bunch of nerds arguing which Princess Leia is hotter, the slave Leia or the no-bra jail-bait Leia. No matter how compelling your argument is, the plain and simple fact is, none of you will EVER get to hit that.

I would be intervening if my mom thought she wanted to get an American car. I would make her try the entry level options from Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz before pulling the trigger.

i would prefer a 5 series or an audi over the caddy, however the CTS is a sharp car. i def wouldnt mind it. if anything suggest to him a 5 series or audi a6 or something. or as stated above. wait for the CTS-V!

to be perfectly honest - and I can't believe I'm saying this - why do you think the 328 is a better buy for him? I mean it's not like he wants a buick lesabre at sticker price or anything

IMO the 328i is overpriced for what you get anyway, I'd rather have a 335i or IS350 or even an S60R over a 328i.

alas it's friday night and I must leave soon, good luck

If your dad has test-driven the CTS along with its competitors and he still prefers the CTS, stfu and let him get what he wants. If, however, he has his mind set on the CTS and he hasn't driven the A4, 328, and the G35... then he could definitely benefit by you tactfully telling him that maybe he should at least test-drive the other ones before making such a big decision. Tell him that an informed consumer is the best consumer and even if he test-drove the CTS' competitors and still prefers it, what did he waste but a couple hours of fun test-driving? For the record, I highly doubt he will prefer the CTS after driving the 328 or A4 or G35, but you never know.

If he isn't an ethusiast there is no reason to wait for the CTS-V. It's silly to think otherwise.

I've driven this car and I can see why your Dad is impressed. It's a LOT better than the old model, the interior is perfectly done and it handles quite well for a big sedan. If I were picking, I'd also choose it over a 328, A4 or g35. You should drive it yourself before you try to talk him out of it, I'm betting you'll be pleasantly surprised.

    You're pretty tough.

Are you part of his family? If so good for you. If not, shut the hell up.

BTW The new CTS is an absolutely gorgeous car. I'd take one over a current 3 series in a heartbeat (barring an m3). It's well designed, handles fantastically, and is good for the price. Even reviews on it are glowing, it's a massive improvement over it's predecessor and the only negative is the depreciation. Odds are if he has the money to buy a brand new one he doesn't care anyway. Nothing to talk him out of, the new CTS is great.

i'd actually tell him to go with the cadillac. unless he's a big car guy he wont like the BMW enough to spend what it costs to keep it up, whereas the cadillac will likely be easier on the wallet to maintain.

The Caddy has a major flaw--it's made by GM, and will most likely explode by 50K miles. If he's only planning to lease for two or three years and turn it in, he should go for it. It's a fine car, and you won't have to wear a paper bag over your head while driving it.

I would, but you don't have to.

The CTS is a very good car, if that's what your dad likes then that's what he should get. It's not the car I'd choose, but it's cheaper and similar enough to keep most people happy.

Im in no position to flame on the CTS because frankly I have never driven one, but I am STRONLY suggesting he test drive ALL the cars in that price range. Then, he will have confidence when signing those papers and he wont have any doubts.

His opinion is his opinion...have to respect it...To each his own.

And it's not like it's going to be that bad anyway...hte new CTS is half-decent.

Seriously, why? Just cause he's not paying for it doesn't mean he can't suggest alternatives.

Suggesting is completely different from convincing...which is what the OP is trying to do.

After reading what Autoweek,R&T, etc have reported on the CTS,I think I could be satisfied with one. I would probably buy something else but I'd consider a CTS if getting a new car in that price range.
