In some very specific instances you have to search out every little detail (such as I was doing awhile back because of autox classing).....But for the most part your money ahead to just skip right to a home built turbo setup (which I've decided to do anyways and just move up to Street Mod)

    Hmm...so I guess a 3.73 diff in a 325e isn't really worth it?

Well if you look at the attachment he posted there is a timeslip between an eS with and without 3.73.

Ya, that was what I was referring to. .2 sec off the 1/4th mile. It does 0-60 noticeably quicker, but not so in the quarter. Not sure if the tradeoff for decreased gas mileage is worth it for such a marginal increase. I drive mostly highway.

my friend had a 3.64 LSD in his 325e, and it was much faster than with the stock diff.

It actually keeps up with my 325is untill we get above about 50-60mph.

What kind of mileage decrease did he get switching over? Where did he get a 3.64?

I'm a 2002 guy who lurks around here from time to time. My daughter's 1990 325i Automatic in in need of a new diff. Or a rebuild. It wines really loud back there. I'm assuming she has a 4.10 in there but I'm wondering if a lower ratio will help her mileage out. Right now, this car sucks down gas but that is mostly due to the stop and go traffic she sits in every day in Los Angeles.
Unless a LSD falls in my lap, i can live with an open diff.
I don't want to sink a ton of money into the car but I'm wondering if it is worth it to swap ratios or if there are any fitting issues I should look out for.
The 4.10 ratios seem readily available on the used market. especially as a non LSD.

I doubt a different gear would make a significant difference on consumption in local stop and go traffic. However a 3.73 gear would be a help in highway driving and wouldn't hurt acceleration much. The 3.73 was found in 325i manual and very early 325i automatics.
