IT's the price you pay for better quality cd sound or overall stereo performance. I have the same problem.. difficulty getting stations in that are 40 miles away. Never had a problem with other cars but I think it has to do with a non external (mast or power) antenna. If anyone knows a solution though I'd be interested.

I've got the exact same problem except I have a stock deck. I just bought the car from a guy in CO that had his aftermarket deck pulled out. My $$ is that he shorted (please let there be a fuse) out the antennea. I haven't had time to look, but that's my guess.

    Jason,

You may want to check to see if he hard wired the deck back up or used the factory harness. It is very possible that he forgot to re-hook up the antenna regulator... I believe it is a white wire with a blue stripe. That could very well be your problem.

Some, but not all, of the BMWs have an amplified antenna. If it's not properly connected, you'll get poor FM reception and no AM at all. There are antenna adapters made for adding an aftermarket decks. Check with a car audio shop. My car doesn't have the amplified antenna, so all I had to do was use the Euro adapter. I get great reception with Nak deck, and I live in mountainous area. Jay

Hey I just got the windows tinted on my 00' 323 and noticed that the reception is worst (factory H/K system)... . Could the tint be the culprit? It's light - only 35%.

I don't think so. The antenna wires (defroster) are on the inside of the glass. The tint installer could have cut or scraped one of the wire traces. That would wrech the reception for sure.

Bringing back another old thread. My new Alpine deck won't pick up anything. There was an tiny silver plug that was grouped with the antenna, but the Metra adapter did not have a spot for it. I assume it is the antenna amplifier power but not really certain. I can get a photo of it later. Anybody know if they sell an adapter for this?
