hi all, i have '92 325i 2.5L V6. The other day started leaking antifreeze, i kept on driving it to the house, and then an oil presure gauge came on and the car died on the highway. after letting it to cool down i couldm't start it anymore. i checked the oil and it was dry. i added oil but it still wont start now. does it sound like bad news? internal engine damage?
any thoughts -good or bad-appreciated!
thanks,
Have it towed to a mechanic and have them check it out. Expect the worst, hope for the best. BTW we have inline 6's.

Doesn't sound good... oil was dryed up, antifreeze leaked out. Just pray that your engine isn't shot. Find where it's leaking first.

if your oil level is now full, does your gauge come up when you crank it? (it may take several seconds of cranking)
Did you have signs of oil in your radiator before or did your oil look milky before this happened?
Red hair on a woman is like a/c and power windows on a car. It isn't absolutely neccessary but it's a heck of a nice feature to have!
maybe when you hit the shit out of whatever you hit it sounds like, you should have not driven it
i didnt have any signs of oil leak, but it was slowly disapearing. oil gauge does come up when i crank it. i heard that it could be the head. i have to wait till the end of the next week to find out for sure. long wait. but i really like that car and if it needs a new engine i guess that what ill have to do... any ideas for the price range? or a good place where i can get one?
thanks alot,
Gosha
You can swap an M3 engine in. I saw on ebay they are going for around 2.5 grand or slightly more. But better than going back to stock engine. GL.

No oil = blown engine....Just think of jackin it at 2500 times per minute with no lube...how do you think it would look afterwards?
Lets not get destructive yet. If you shut it down shortly after the pressure dropped you shouldn't really have any damage. Unless there was damage already that caused the pressure drop. Even if you don't have pressure on your gauge there is still a thin film of oil on your bearings and such. You don't have pressure before you start it in the morning now do you? With that said you wouldn't want to run one long without pressure or be cranking hard on one at the time of a drop but the fact is the bearings are not dry when the pressure drops. I have seen cars run for years that idle with no pressure showing on the gauge and only about 10-15psi when driving down the road.
Don't start the uligy until the body has quit breathing, cpr is over and the body is cold!! he he

ya i would take it, if that guy still has it next week friday. thats when i find out what exactly is wrong
would 525i fit?
Yes and no. Yes its the same motor, except for the oil pan, which is completely wrong for the e36 chassis. But since you already have a 325 oil pan, you can use it on the 525 motor, provided it doesn't have a big hole in it where all the oil leaked out of lol.
