Nah, no way a pre-cat O2 sensor could do it. That WOULD definitely throw a code if it were getting bad enough of a reading to effect performance.

Odd thing is my car hasn't ALWAYS done it, just started about 10 months ago

Haha I hear ya, my car is nice and smooth all the other times, its just the one or two momentary "dips" in power up top before redline.

Oh well, one more reason to go with a standalone and turbo

Seems like a pretty common problem, i'm surprised no one has came up with a solution..

I wish I had a BMW to be posting here, but I'm here because many of the people on 3SI.org have the same problem except at a different RPM range 2600 - 2800 or 2800-3000 depending on the outside temp. The problem has illuded MANY for years with people trying everything ya'll have mentioned in this thread. The problem with today's world is that no one wants to retroactively post the fix once it occurs... I hope that whoever resolves this on ya'll platform posts the fix and that it can help me and my buds on 3SI.org too.

On page 1 there should be a post of mine that lists possible items that I'm considering on trying. Hopefully that should help.

I think one component that is overlooked too often is the IAT.
I would imagine that the miss would be present at idle too, but worth checking, anyway.

Actually one of my friends who manages a shop said it could be the coolant temperature sensor (well in my case at least). Lately in the cold my car hasn't suffered the high RPM misfires and is running like a dream.

    No such thing.
Either the intake air temp or coolant temp.

Subscribed: Same problem here. Doesnt stumble every time. Probably 1 of 4 times. Usually the higher gears. Been doing this over a year now.

Yea mine was running excellent all day then just a minute ago it was doing it again!!

Of course only in 3rd gear +

Just ordered a new intake boot (mine has cracks, none of which appear to go all the way through) and a fuel filter. Also got some oem bmw front rotors, control arms and bushings..

I doubt the suspension stuff will help

Anyways Ill post up how it is after the boot and filter..

If nothing from those, im moving on to ignition..

Thanks for the support bf.c, I hope we figure this out!

That would be my guess. My car began doing that, and finally the cam sensor went out and was bucking at around 6,000 rpm in any gear.

All interesting replies. I'm still deciding what to do next. I'll probably clean the MAF and check the fuel pressure (didn't have time last weekend).

    Mine finally threw a code!!

It was a misfire in cylinder 3..

I pulled the coil from cylinder 3 and swapped it with cylinder 4s.

If it the coil then the next CEL will be misfire in cylinder 4...

If it is still in cylinder 3 then it could be a plug or something else..

    Ill let yall know

Try flexing the harness near the coils.
I don't mean try to break it; do it gently.
