Well then!
My friend's father owns a car dealership & often goes to Auctions around the U.S. and buys cars he thinks will sell. This friend is a girl, "Holly" we'll call her.
She was there and has her own bidding ticket and can go with or without her father to bid for their dealership. She bought a 98 M3, Cosmos Blk, 48,000. *Very nice shape*, $17,500.
She knows I love the M3 with a passion.. So that's why they bought it. But anyways to the question---is it necessarily smart to buy an M3 at an auction? They have the carfax reports & stuff at the time.. so you're not exactly blindfolded!
You're basically taking a risk. It's a gamble and you can't really bet your life on what the carfax says. Either way that is a decent deal. Looks like a few others were bidding for the same car.
It's okay to buy at an auction, just check out the car thoroughly. Lots of times, dealers send cars to auction because it has been sitting too long and they need to turn the merchandise.
that's a really cheap price...clean title? not salvaged?
All truths, guys.
Every buy is a risk..unless you knew the car since it was bought.
Either way, if the money is there, it could be turned around and sold for more.
Car dealers don't make the money when they sell the car, they make it when they buy it.

Well, I was talking about if I were to buy the car cheap, I could sell it for more if i had the desire to.
I know how the dealers work.
I think at those big auctions like Manheim, they aren't allowed to auction off salvaged cars or ones that have had major damage or frame damage, are they?

I dont know Dave, but that is reassuring news.
erik you think your friend can find me a e46 m3?
Well, I'll be visiting all of the auctions in this upcoming spring, so I will personally be on the lookout for both E36 & E46 M3's.
I don't know if it could really work out this way, you kind of have to be there in order to buy it.
I guess he gets tipped off on what cars will be there, so realistically what are you looking for?
