    DIY: ** E36 STOCK headlight REMOVAL **

Open your hood and take a look.

Remove the six (6) screws from your hood cowl and also the tubing at the back and pull
up and towards the rear of the engine.

This is what it should look like when you take it off.

    Unhook your headlight bulbs.

    Take out your turn signal.

Take your 8mm socket and a 19mm wrench and unscrew your headlamps. You will need
the 19mm wrench to hold the back nut in place while your undo the bolts.

The first picture are of the screw under the turn signal, the other is closer to the radiator.

Nah. You need that for aerodynamics and proper cooling. Leaving it off will make your car slower.

Only problem I ran into was some of the bolts were hard to reach. Real easy if you have the right extensions though.

I lost 2 screws, they were the ones that were hard to reach, but I've taken apart my headlights like 30 times since I've owned the car lol

a little piece of tape in the socket will prevent that.

Remove 4 8mm bolts: 2 near the radiator support, 1 behind the light assembly and 1 behind the inner light. That bolt is easier to get through via the grille area.

When I first took a headlight off an E36, the hardest part was to remove the blinker. I always broke them and had to buy new ones

What's the easiest way to hold the adjusters for the screws closest to the radiator? Mine just spun and the gap between the lens and the body was too narrow to fit a 19mm wrench in there.
I'm not sure exactly how I eventually got mine out.

they have a wedge in them, stick a flat head in it to stop them from spinning.

You mean put the flat head in from above, right? I tried fitting one in between the lens and body.

    Thanks for the tip!

the black plastic insert has a wedge in it, stick the screwdriver in the wedge and you are golden.

see the wedge in there? that where you put a screw driver. if not a wrench, if not then pliers if not pull the plastic insert completely out and get the bolt out of it.

same difference, twist them out and then take the 8mm bolts out.
