    Moon 2002 M5 vs. E55 AMG

Well I got tired of hearing my buddy John (owns the e55) telling that his sedan can beat mine. So we decided to go at it. I have the Val 1 radar dete. in my car so we thought it would be a clean race. It was about 100 am and both our cars were warm and ready to go. We pulled out of Jack in the Crack and headed about a mile to a 1/4 located close to the high school here. The strip is 2 lanes so no cars coming at us. We decided that we would do 2 runs and we switch off honkin the horn 3x to go. Well I honked 3x and we went off. No tire skweek for me because of Traction and a little skweek from John. I pulled from 1 gear about a car lenght and then when I hit 2nd I was gone. I won about 2 and a half car lenghts on him the 1st time. Second time only about 1 and a half car lengths because he got the jump on the horn honking shit. But now he doesn't talk very much about beating me anymore. :

    I also own an M5, 2003 though.

My partner actually owns an E55 AMG and one day during lunch at work he wanted to see who would win in race, both stop and roll.

From a stop, to 110mph I pulled a clean 2 car lengths on him.

    From a roll, to 120mph I pulled almost 2 cars, I'd say more 1 1/2 car lengths.

    Nice runs though...

Not to rain on your parade, but you guys know when the new E55 AMG comes out it will be a different story. The old ones are not as fast as the supercharged ones. Nonetheless You guys know what you have and I'd take it anyday over an E55.

    Greco,

You're right...until the future M5 comes out, then it's the same deal

I'd love to meet up with E39 M5 guys and have some fun racing with my E46 M3.

So far every M5 I have encountered ignores me.

we did that package at our dealer... the sound of that car still haunts me (in a good way) after it was completed and taking for a "test drive"... took 2 weeks for us to complete...i remember recieving the dinan headers (i recieve parts being a parts employee, have to check stuff for damage) and when i heard the price for them ($6000) i almost fainted, dinan is getting so expensive... the guy ended up paying like $35K to do this to his M5...crazy...but, fast...

Umm, the SL 55 AMG was tested with the porsche Gt2 and Lambo Murcielago, and it won. I believe the E55 is faster than the Sl 55 because of the weight difference, therefore the E55 can kill a porsche turbo or S2 M5. It may not take it off the line since you really can't launch with an auto, however at speed it will destroy either car.

first of all, a modded M5 against a stock W210 E55 AMG?! Of course you would win. You sould win even if you have a stock M5 unless you don't know how to lunch the car well, then the E55 should take it everytime. second, it's still a great win because your friend was talking smack.

personally I hate people talking smack. It's like the dude with the M3 that went against the Zo6 talking smack and end up getting his ass kicked.

ablahad, yes, the E55 is quicker and a little faster than the SL55. I don't think 4.2 is correct tho. It's more like 4.4-5 second 0-60 for the new E55 and 4.6 for the SL55.

The new E55 at speed will win against either car. Hell, put it against a Gt2, and it'll still win. They're pushing so much boost in those cars its insane. 516ft lbs of torque stock, thats unbelievable. Imagine the new CL65 AMG, 740 ft lbs stock, lol.

I wonder how much more power you would get if you mod it.

Oh man, they are easy to mod. They have pulley kits pumping out over 400hp for C32 AMG. Imagine what they can do on the blown V8's. The scary thing is, with the Cl 65 AMG, its a twin turbo V12, chip that thing and you can run insane power.

BMW started the horsepower/torque race with its E36 M3 (Euro). MB, Audi, and Jag are simply following the footsteps.

Which responds better to mods, pre-2003 e55 or pre-2004 m5? I mean semi-inexpensive mods like chips and exhaust, not $30k packages from dinan or brabus. I guess since they're both NA and pretty well-designed in the first place, you probably can't get too much more out of either one, eh?

not to mention the fact that the post is in the wrong section, and that the op is no longer with us

I'd say the M5. But there are no semi-inexpensive mods for these cars.

uhhh.... I went up against a new AMG E55 and I couldn't pull on him, but he couldn't pull on me either. It was a tie. The newer AMG E55 are about 500 hp. The older ones were much less.
