Anyone have a problem with the AA strut bar hitting the underside of their hood?
Mainly the insulation thats on the underside of the hood?
There is a slight bulg in the insulation on the underside of the hood...Anyone know what purpose this serves?
Anyone have any tips?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by hundreds of engineers that get paid thousands of dollars for something you bought at Pep Boys because your buddy who doesn't have a job told you it was 'better'?!?
mine touchs no problem tho
This shop ripped me off and they'll rip you off too!

When i first installed the bar on my '94 325i, I didn't notice that it was touching. Now there is a small upward dent in my hood over the driver's side strut tower. Grr:

1991 Imola on black 318is
Same thing happened to my friend as it did to Aquila. He had two upward dents on his hood after the install. Pretty piss poor design flaw, assuming it wasnt an installation issue.
Are you guys talking about dents in the actual hood or the insulation?

I don't have a strut bar, but I installed an under hood light, and I noticed that the insulation is sagging. I didn't notice this until I put the light in, and there is no way to notice unless you do what I did. So what I'm saying is that maybe your insulation is sagging.
I dented my hood when I installed my AA front strut brace, but that's because the wiring was in the way. You know that cable that normally clips into the stock shock tower cover on the driver's side? That has to go around the base of the brace, not over it. Otherwise, you'll end up with a nice dent in the hood (the metal, not just the insulation)
That being said, my brace touches the insulation, but isn't causing any trouble.

Did it make any rips or tears in the insulation?

NY98M3 - You might want to try and close your hood in a different fashion to prevent dents from the bar. The JT-Designs bar is a close fit too and it touches the insulation as well. Now, when I close my hood, I manually put it down all the way and then push it closed with my palm over the BMW Roundel. No dents so far...

My aa bar hit the insulation too. I always carefly close my hood and I have had no problems. It does not tear the insulation but just kinda indents it in a little. i imagine if the hood is slammed and the locking catch is at its lowest it may dent.
Car looks good!

Is there any purpose for the insulation on the passenger side to be the way it is? Is there anything underneath there?
