Hello thought i would add my 1981 320i (143K) I just picked up over the weekend.
Drove it from Atlanta to Birmingham.
The 3 speed auto trans needs to be swapped out for a 5 speed.
That interstate drive was a bit rough.
Runs ok a little hard to start but planning on going through maintenance items in the following weeks.
First mods is to de-gas that front bumper and put the extra mesh bbs wheels on it.
And... hopefully remove that ///M badge as well? Hopefully...

Oh yeah definitely. Plus the little graphic on the bottom of the fender needs to go.
Thanks.
Hi All,
After many years away I have became an e21 owner again. Here's a pic of the early model vehicle I pick up on Thursday. More details to come after I collect it.
I'm used to the 80/81 models so was very surprised to see a dual brake booster setup on this one and the fact it was on the passenger side. Pics to come.
Any ideas on the front air dam? Kamei or something like that?

1980 320i now vs when I got it
Just bought a 1980 323i here in Philadelphia with around 197K on the odometer; it is a European (gray market) car and will be sorting it out over the next few months. First need is a front grille badge ("323i") part number 51141858815 which was discontinued by BMW AG in 2010 and not available in the USA anyway. Anyone with an extra for sale, please contact me in the USA at 1 215 574 5050 or at joepalmer@comcast.net Thank you for adding me to the group
Hello together, few days ago I noticed how many people like and love older Bmw's over there in the USA. So here am I too. I am a 54 year old Car Mechanic from Dinslaken, Germany. My car is 1981 Polarissilver 316. I bought it about three years ago totally clean and complet original with only 64k km on it. Here in Germany we've got older cars, over thirty years old, registrated with a H plate. That will limit changes to be periodically correct. A few things were done to brake and suspension: new vented brake front, installing new shocks all around an mounting some Alpina style 6*13 ATS wheels with 185/70. Just in work is a 318i engine out of an E30 cause the stock one is burning more and more Oil. I hope my english is not so bad as i feel while i wrote this. It is all what left from my school learned english. Now im 54 and left school in 1979 so please excuse. Andreas

1983 320is i picked up in Ohio for 2k. Not sure if i paid too much but it runs well and he was asking 2500. I really wanted it lol so its an early birthday present to myself. Super excited as this is my first bmw. I want to to replace the hood insulation, replace gear shift knob, repair the dashboard, fix a few rust spots, and refurbish the recaro seats, and most importantly maintain the mechanical parts. Overall not in too bad a condition.
Hi all,
I bought my Pastelbleu '77 320A at the beginning of 2013. It has 298,000km's on it, about 35,000 of them by me.
I have the history of the car since 1977, my grandfather was a mechanic and he knew the owner of the BMW dealer and subsequent workshop the original owner took it to, so they dug up all of the information for me.
When I originally bought it, it was on GAZ coilovers and had fake BBS RS wheels on it. I drove it like that for two years.
cdtREkO.jpg
I then went away for two years and left the car sitting in my mothers garage. The garage leaked, and the car got moisture trapped under the car cover it was under. The interior went mouldy and the paint on the bonnet lifted. The car was starting to crumble, just around the edges.
I've since sold off the wheels and suspension and have had the standard wheels and suspension fitted again. I've just put in an order for a few thousand dollars worth of genuine parts (window trim, window seals, boot seals etc) and will be having the paint (and some minor rust) issues sorted. The motors also tired and down on compression/piston slappy, so i'll be having the motor rebuilt to factory specs.
I'm hoping it'll be back to its former glory sometime in 2018.
I know it's "only" a 320A and isn't a Beur or Alpina or something, but the original owner kept it in such good condition that it would be a shame to not look after it properly.
Edit: God you US folks got the short end of the bumper stick...

My 1983 320is. All original 34,xxx miles, 2nd owner. I've had this car for a handful of years now and mostly just drive it on the weekend from time to time. I have all the documentation on it for the time it was originally purchased so its neat to see the journey of it. I am currently preparing to part ways with it to help fund my garage project and hopefully I will be able to find someone who will continue to take good care of it.

Nice ride! I'm in Ohio too, and also just purchased an E21. Where you at in the state?
smoney87gt,
That is a beauty.
Reminds me of one I had years ago
Can you tell me what size tires you are running on the "S" rims?

154,xxx
I can't remember if I ever posted on here or not..
1981 320i 'S'
owned it since August 2016 and just over 49k miles, purchased from 2nd owner. 1st owner owned it 32 years. Kept fairly all original with some minor period correct and original upgrades. Also included in the purchase were original BBS RS070s
Bought it with the front bumper converted to Euro, not the rear, converted it myself.

Pulling up last summer's pic....I'm ready!

IMG_5182.jpgJust bought my first E21 its a 320/6 carb 1977.
Indicated 47,000 KM but highly doubt it
I have just ordered a load of new panels, its having a full bare shell rebuild,
Not really planned it all yet, having a custom rad made at the moment, remote oil filter, oil cooler not decided on which carbs to go for yet, upgraded header & system and maybe a cam kit
Suspension wise coil overs and upgraded bush kit etc
Brakes maybe the wilwood with rear disk conversion, bias adj brakes full braided lines etc
Battery is being relocated in the boot
Its a horrible orange colour at the moment, it will be a dark silver when painted without the alpina stickers
Hoping to have it ready for next summer i had trouble uploading pics but have added 1 the day i bought it and 1 after i started the tear down.

Hey guys, new to the forum, this is my second post actually.
Here's my '77 E21 320i na spec
Her name is Audrey. I picked her up just after new years as my first car. I wanted a project that would be easy to work on and fun to drive.
235k miles on a broken odometer, Paid $725
Modifications from PO:
- bilstiens all around
- Weber 32/36 carburetor
- 5 speed from a newer E21 in place of the stock 4 speed
- lots of messy wiring
Modifications I have done so far:
- Stereo + speakers
- Cleaned up wiring, returned many modified harnesses to stock
- Fixed infamous hazard switch
- new air cleaner
- new fuel filters
- bought alloy wheels, not installed yet
- brake job calipers + rotors
- fixed misc stuff
Future Plans:
Being a new york state car, she's rusty and I intend to do a full strip down and weld new metal in next summer.
valve job/ top end rebuild
paint
lower the front end, it sits a little too high

Mine is a 79 Golf yellow. I paid 250 for it with a blown engine. I found and engine and installed it and it runs really nice now. It has new HR suspension and steering along with Rota 15's and nittos. 152k miles. I'm fixing the console and adding an original radio that I will install bluetooth into. I fixed a lot of wiring issues and the flasher problem in the last few weeks. 1a8e+RoHTRqzB4iznj0Wew.jpg
