Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by hundreds of engineers that get paid thousands of dollars for something you bought at Pep Boys because your buddy who doesn't have a job told you it was 'better'?!?

Option 640 is the phone pre-wiring, which all North American cars have.... The question is... what if you have a pre-03/2002 with the phone pre-wiring (that is any 3 series). What kit do you get? I am looking for something in the parentheses that says (from 03-2001 with option 640).

I don't have the kit yet, I found the part no and descriptions on the web. So I'm starting my research...

The day the kit comes into my dealer ill be sure to get one installed. I have a Sony Ericsson T68m (T68i is a waste of money-if you paid for it ) , a Jabra Bluetooth Headseat, a bluetooth capable Ipaq and a Sony Clie with a Bluetooth Mem Stick. What i would really like to see is the Car's systems taking advantage of any services such as GRPS to maintain an always on connection to retrieve emails and get traffic info and based on the congestion, have the Nav plot a course void of any reported traffic. Yeah, that would be AWESOME. What also would be cool is if you were to ever play a CD, the car could automatically download the CDDB info for that CD and display it (ie, artist, album info). Bluetooth has endless possibilities. Imagine bluetooth security systems in which the car unlocks itself when it detects your cell phone in ur pocket and that you are near and automatically unlocks itself.

Hopefully someone from BMW NA will read this. Cuz that would be awesome.

I don't know if you know this, but the T68m and T68i are basically the same phone. The only real difference is the software. You can get the software for the T68i loaded on the T68m, basically making it a T68i.

The other differences I know of are embossed instead of silk-screened logos and molded battery instead of plastic cover.
That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

That is awesome, that will happen, just not today. Considering all the security risks, and the fact that wireless encryption is not really up to snuff just yet, we will have to wait a bit for such nice services

Mercedes has something like this, but it doesn't unlock until you touch the driver's door handle. You can also start the car just by having the key in your pocket.
