No problems at 83K, but I highly recommend changing the fluid.

Changed mine at 80K, looked more like used engine oil then transmission fluid.

No problems yet and I hope to not have any. The car is still new to me, but it has 64K on it. Runs like a top!

84k on mine, no problems. Debating on if I should change the fluid. Is there anywhere I can by service insurance on my car with it's miles?

Interestingly, the results of this poll and the exact same poll on another BMW forum are pretty much the same:

92% have not had steptronic problems
    8% have had steptronic problems

Although, as said from the beginning, this is far from scientifically significant, especially when mileage, aftermarket modification and driving habits are taken into consideration, this is somewhat comforting. At least it's not 70/30 or 60/40 or, gasp, 50/50...

Keep this one going folks! So far the numbers haven't budged. We're still at around 92% non-failures, 8% failures.

I will likely follow this poll up with a few, more specific polls to try to narrow our unscientific statistical sampling...

Hi! I have a 2001 325 Ci with 85,000 miles and I am having a transmission warning problem, and I am still trying to understand what is causing it. The warning sign (gear next to the D) will light only when I drove the car for more than 50 miles. Maybe you can help me understand the issue better.

The trans fluid used in our cars is not a red colour like regular trans fluid, its an amber coloured fluid much like engine oil.

115k on my '01 325. Upshifts/downshifts/engages in reverse very smoothly still. Driving in sport mode, also shifts great at the higher RPMS. I always worry it's going to go but, so far, it looks like I got a good one.
