BT didn't come into play on TCUs until 05 on the E53 iirc. I was somehow lucky with a ulf.
Though it is strange you had the red light, which shows you should be able to pair a phone.
Yeah, I know it's really strange. Oddly enough I have a ULF in the 03 M5. And it must have been dealer installed because the last 5 of the VIN show up when pairing, and I don't need to use the pairing button to make it pair. On the X there isn't a pairing button at all. Also, when you press telephone there's 2 buttons at the bottom. One says emergency and the other is a phone reciever symbol.
