LSD standard or option on Z3 2.8?

I am just getting familiar with all the stats on 2.8 Z's and it seems like a 3.23 diff was standard but are more LSD or open? Is there a good website with lots of details on the different models, down to weights, brake diams, diff ratios, etc?

    Thanks in advance!

Yep, your wrong. My 97 2.8l has the LSD, but I don't know if it was standard or an option.

Cool actually most '97's wouldn't have LSD....

it wasn't an option and although some brochures mentioned it, LSD wasn't actually put into the schedule until late August 1997...leaving most '97's without...became standard on '98 2.8's...when confronted, dealers stated same song and dance which Z8's got when they discovered it missing from their rides as well: "electronic traction control is same thing"...so if anyone's '97 truly has LSD...very lucky indeed!...my '97 2.8 fully optioned, bought new, with a build date, of July, Z3#070XX..has an open diff(1428258/E8021J;3.15)...Z3 Cheers! dk

No it doesn't. It has a Torsen. Torsens behave just like an open diff in the simple "jack the rear up and spin" test.

I don't mean to argue with you, but I'm looking at the factory equipment list that came with my car and it lists both All Season Traction AND Limited-slip differential separately as standard equipment on my car. The build date on my car is 04/97. Are you saying that's not true?

so then traction control and LSD were available together? Interestingly the 318ti's were only offered with LSDs for one year until ASC+T was added though they work fine together.

Then how do you inspect for LSD- look for a "S" tag on the diff itself?

I don't know what mine had stock, the previous owner replaced it with an M3 diff. Oh how do I find out exactly what the ratio is on my diff?

Cool My 12/96 Diff. has a 3.15 LSD

    Which I removed and installed a 3.73 LSD from a E30.

And yes the 3.15 passed the spin test!

Can anyone tell me what I have in my 2001 3.0 Coupe? LSD? Torsen? What ratio?

And can I get LSDs from 6-cyl models or from other chassis and install in my soon-to-be DASC'd M44 Z3?
