Okay, something about an e34 with a steering rack = ftw. That looks so hot.

This mod is over at BI... Search Thule Footpack and you'll get the whole picture. This allows you to lower, snap and go

There is a new write up on this Thule, but I couldn't find it. It's an 07 thread for sure with pics.

There's a guy in Ohio who happens to own both a Bike Shop and a Touring...

    From Roadfly:

    Here's one of his posts

    "
    TK1 Tracker II Kit #1
    430 Tracker II Foot Pack
LB50 Load Bars (need to be cut down)
    544 4 pack of locks"

    Shop Link

Just call and ask for Marty, he owns the shop. It's in Avon Lake. He'll sell you the feet and the adapters with the mods already made. Modded and shipped, he did them under retail.

    Full Roadfly thread: http://bimmer.roadfly.com/bmw/forums/e34/7301594-1.html

The load bars and anything else you want can be had offa ebay way cheaper than buying new, unless your super anal about stuff, and then I just ask Marty to do everything.

I highly recommend the 589/889 velovice if you're gonna be putting bikes up top.
I didn't cut the loadbars down, and have the full 50in width on my car with no issues.

since i already had a full set of Yakima gear, bars and bike/board/ski attachments i found a set of rail riders on ebay for $20. i have yet to mount it up, but it looks like it should work fine.

it won't be nearly as slick as the thule setup, but i don't use the rack much. if i get to the point where i want to mount/dismount more regularly, i'll look into the thule setup or a newer yamika mount.

I did a set of 369's (feet for the E30 and E34 non touring), 2 50in Load Bars, 3 589 Velovices and two wheel forks for $280 to my door (Ebay). You can order parts for the Thule stuff from them direct if anything used needs a little work.

Same Thule Evolution 1600, but with the touring trimmed out in MTech (spring outing with my sons) 2 boys, tent, camp stove, coleman chairs, two kids bikes, all the gear up top, bikes and two ice chests down below with the boys. Most of the time all the camping gear and the stove is in the combi hanging on the hoist in garage...just pull in, open the sun roof, lower, snap and go.

I'm tellin you there is no need for a truck.

I paid about $360 for mine a few years ago, but this is the exact box. They make a bigger and smaller and narrower box, but this is the right size for a touring. Mine was called the evolution and they call this years model the atlantis.

Holds 3 bags of clubs (personally tested) too for that golfing road trip to Concan

    Thule combi box vs. Packasport

It seems that most of you Touring owners steer towards the Thule Evolution 1600 box which is 76"L x 33"W. I was going to buy the Packasport 90 series (mostly because it comes in white to match my Touring), but noticed that the dimensions on their boxes are quite a bit longer. The Packasport measures 89" long and 34" wide. Do you think the length is too much for the Touring? I don't physically own the vehicle yet, cannot measure.

    Thanks

    Eric
