    Rim question invovling weight

Ok, i think i wanna get some SSR competitions. They weigh 15lbs each, a big savings over my stock rims. Will i be able to notice the difference? will less rotating mass make the car do things better? also this is 40lbs static weight off as well.

    Need some help,
    Josh

it depends on the tires you get, too.

get a light tire like bridgestone S-02s, and you'll REALLY feel a difference.

Not to long ago there was a spirited discussion surrounding this issue - try searching the archives.

Here is a cloudy recollection -

take the four wheel savings and multiply by about 6.1 to get a sprung weight equivalent. ie 10lbs per wheel = 40lbs * 6.1 = 240 lbs.

I switched from stock to Fikse FM5s and figure I saved about 6-8lbs per wheel - I very much noticed the difference in acceleration, braking and cornering. I also got used to it VERY fast.

I think the real bottom line of the discussion was that it matters more where the weight is saved vs. how much. The further out on the wheel the better - so if you are into this kind of thing buy light tires!
