hey guys I got in an accident today, i have a 97 m3 and im 18 , i know your gonna say it was too much power, but save all the bashing please. I was ging 80 mph and i was on the Northrn Parkway I was on the left lane and there was a car ahead of me going maybe 60 so i go to the right lane and as soon as i am near her rear bumper she probably thought i was still behind her and she came into my lane and clipped me i went swerving in and out the raod and end up hitting her with my front while I was spinning. The car is not too bad, I will need a new hood, left headlight, a new front bumper, and i drivers side panel. i hope nothing was dont t the engine. It was on the side with the intake so im hoping theres no damage. But how much do u guys think it will be ? And should I go though insurance or just save up and repair the car . Reminder I am 18 and my insurance will be sky high if i go through them.
Sounds like it wasn't your fault. Give your statement to your insurance and your insurance only...and let them handle it. That is why you have insurance.
did you get a police report and everything?

yea i go the police report and all that, but i really dont want my insurance to go up.

What do you mean by drivers side panel, like the front fender, or the door?? a hood, headlight and front bumper wont cost all that much, but the fender would cost a bunch id imagine. also check to make sure your steering/suspension is ok (no broken controll arms or anything like that)

how much are you able to shell out. if there was no damage to the other party's car and you are easily able to afford the damage, go for it......otherwise, exercising your deductible might be a good idea

who was at fault/?
alcoholism is an illness...but it's a good illness cause you get to be drunk all the time- norm macdonald

well lets put it this way...for a very minor dent and some paint work to my front nose panel, hood and trunk lid was estimated at $1300, so i'm sure yours will be much more then that. good luck
well if you were not at fault and report this to your insurance. Can't see why they would raise your rate.
also, if you can get deals on parts than see how much it will cost to repair it yourself but sounds like it will be or over 2G overall.
i think it still does rise even if its not your fault

If she crossed into your lane, she IS at fault for an unsafe lane change. If they ask you about speed, you just say you were keeping up with traffic (important) and are not quite sure, if they ask you about general traffic speed then you can say 70 to 80. Depends if you have admitted to overtaking another car in the right lane in the report... which although it is a legal no-no (unless you can prove extra-ordinary circumstances), has to be done because of the lack of lane discipline all around the US...
Generally:
If the accident is your fault that your insurance rates should NOT change, especially if its the first accident.
If the accident is your fault, then you will be hit for your deductable, but at least your insurance company will pay for repairs. You might see a small increase, but it should not be as bad as a speeding ticket.
Of course there are a ton of really lowball insurance companies that do raise your rates for such things as parking tickets. If that is the case, pick another insurance company.

Not to scare you, but I rear-ended a lady because I wasn't paying attention and just banged up the front (headlights, grill, bumper, hood, and new fenders too.) It's more damage than what you had but mine came out to about $7,700. I'm only 17 and went through insurance of course. I haven't heard how much it went up yet. It only happened about 2 months ago but I'm sure it will go up soon. With only $700 I'd say that you're going to have to go through your insurance.
1) Insurance will go up ... period. Plus, if it goes over a certain dollar limit, the insurance company might drop you (trust me, Allstate and State Farm don't around with people).
2) You will have 3 years from which you CANNOT get into another accident.
3) some people are wrong here, insurance companies not only look at the fault/no-fault principle; but ALSO at how many claims you've filed in the past 3 years... PERIOD... regardless of fault.
4) he was going 80 mph and tried to pass the lady on the RIGHT SIDE, HE IS AT FAULT.... period.....if she was going 60 and he was going 80 mph, she would have looked in her mirror, saw nothing and started turning in, just like many of us would do.....and if the person is going much faster, she'll never see him coming....
5) He's 18... who do you think they are going to believe?
6) A good claims adjuster can estimate how fast a car was going based upon the amount of damage done to both vehicles ... he'll know that ..
7) If she clipped him, he never hit his horn.... which means he probably wasn't paying attention either to the road b/c she clipped him in the front (notice no damage to the rear of the car), then obviously he had time to slow down IF he was paying attention... he could hit his horn, moved over and hit his horn, etc... at minimal, both are at equal fault... here...
You should get an estimate on the amount of repair it would take, you could purchase probably alot of the items cheaper yourself --- but, if you need a new hood; and driver's panel -- you need to check the engine mounts, frame, suspension, brakes, etc... Most likely there is SOME damage somewhere to the steering, etc...
I would say you are looking at $2500+ for repairs AT LEAST, if you go with brand new everything.
With this economy, his insurance rates will go up. The best thing you could do is sit down with your insurance agent and talk to them, and make sure to speak to the UNDERWRITER, if the underwriter says your claim will NOT go up, then get this in writing from them.
Your rate will probably go up maybe $200-500 per six months.

Yep. No accident repair is ever under about 1K.
I got barely scraped in a parking lot a year ago. Cost~ $1000.00, and it was only a scratch!
not always true. I had a dent taken out of my hood then had it repainted, new front bumper, underpanel, and wheel well liners and new aux fan, had a section of the rear bumper resurfaced and the whole thing repainted, and some other minor things in the area, for around $900. I bought all the parts myself from BMA in California, and had the shop repaint things. Put everything back together myself. Its not a five star paint job, but its also better than paying 2k. Good Luck. And I'd get the ZKW's and the bumper on your own.

1998 BMW M3
1994 Chevy 1500

Yup, Matt = ZKW's = $360???
Rieger = $450-600 depending on where you get it, I know Vic down at mms-tuning in FL is selling it for around $450 I believe.
Painting, at a quality place, will cost around $300 for the front bumper.
If he can get the items at merchant prices, have your shop do it; but, if he's going to charge retail, forget it. Just contact local places in NY or in the surrounding areas. Hell, why not go with the Hella angel eyes of turnermotorsports .....
Reiger is imported, so your person needs to talk to a shop that has it currently in stock ... if he orders from germany, you'll be waiting awhile....
what shops in ny will get this < my car is currently at the shop , and he says he needs the part numbers to get the bumper and zkw or should I just go all original again ? will my insurance raise even more If i get the reiger and Zkw's?

that sux to hear man. when she got outta the car was she screaming or yelling at u or anything?
BALLERWERKS
If the car is messed up and the adjuster hasnt looked at it yet claim everything. Dings, scratches wheel rash. If your insurence is paying you have the choice to do what ever the hell you want w/ the money. I feel your lookin at over $5,000. You can spend the money on anything you want. If your auto body guy is good he can get the company to pay enough to make your car brand new all around and probably bury your deductable.
When I got in my accident I'm sure it could have been done for less than 7k but the body shop guy replaced EVERYTHING. Anything that even had a scratch was gone. I bought a different front bumper instead of the stock one and he said that he'd waive the deductible in this case because the bumper cost more than my deductible and he wouldn't have to buy one in this case. He also threw in some clears for nothing. Work with him and if you're buying the bumper and ZKW's on your own he may waive the deductible and save you some money. I don't know how much mine has gone up yet so I can't really help you out on that. Good luck.
Your repair will probably be on the order of $7-10k. Even if you did the work yourself you're probably looking at $3-4k and a big headache.
That said, I'm assuming a kind of 'minor' accident(<10mph). I can only imagine the damage that an 80mph collision would do.
it acxtually wasnt that bad , just alot of stuff had to be replaced, nothin touched the engine or the frame of the car (thank god), but know i need part number to the reiger and zkw's can neone help me ?
