Hey all I'm writing this up for future reference for anyone having similar issues. First, a little background. Initially, my car had been having some battery issues which I kind of pushed off. The car died a few times and I'd charge it back up and it would start, I think I jumped it once or twice. Fast forward a few days and the car does not crank when turning the key to the "ON" position, even the fuel pump does not engage. Now I'm not sure what caused the EWS to go bad, although I have heard jumping these cars can be harmful. If anyone can comment on this I would greatly appreciate it.
Engine Codes:
Attachment 684321
108 Unterbrechung Dauerversorgung
204 EWS3.3 Wechselcode-Abspeicherung
148 EWS3.3 Schnittstelle DME-EWS
I was able to check the codes using a program called INPA, you can download it
here, you will also need a
K+DCAN cable. One final thing is that you will need a 16 to 20 pin OBD adapter (The OBD port inside the car does not communicate with the EWS, so you will need to use the OBD port in the engine bay.)
Solution:
Purchase a new EWS module from a BMW dealership. The part number is "
61359145097". I called my local dealership and it was a pretty smooth process, you will have to fill out a Theft Relavent Part form and give them your VIN as the EWS is coded specifically for your car. The new module cost me about $180. For the install, I'd recommend following this
guide.
Hopefully this write up gives someone out there some direction. I know a couple of weeks ago I would have killed for something like this! If anyone feels anything needs to be changed, let me know!
