Excuse me while I vent! Park Ave BMW - STAY AWAY!

Had an appointment today to take the Z to the dealer. Seems the engine has been making a "puff" about 5 seconds after I shut it off. Sounds like it is coming from the intake. One dealer told me it was normal but I never heard another car make that sound so I wanted another opinion.

On the way I hit a huge pothole which bent my 2 left side wheels. Then when writing up the req she inputs that the car makes a puffing sound 5 seconds BEFORE it is shut off. Like the car knows it is going to be turned off in 5 seconds. Then comes the loaner car, a Ford Escort P.O.S.!

So I'm at work waiting for their call. $1100 to have the dealer replace the wheels (NOT!) and the car isn't making the puffing noise. OF COURSE IT'S NOT, they are listening 5 seconds BEFORE they shut it off not AFTER! So, they say they'll keep the car overnight because I said that it idles rough if you leave it for TWO days not overnight.

    Now the kicker....

On the way home I stop to put gas in the POS loaner car they gave me with 1/4 tank. After putting in $10 worth the car won't start. The starter just clicks and the headlights are dim. So I call the dealer and they give me a tow truck company to call and tell me to tow it to them! They wouldn't even make the call for me.

So the Mrs comes and gives me a boost. The battery terminals are so corroded they actually taped the wires to the terminals with electrical tape. I even find half a used lemon stuck between the battery and the airbox. So now the car sits in my driveway waiting for a tow tomorrow. Can't wait to call them tomorrow and update them on tonight's trivial activities!

Holy Crap, Joe, you have some bad luck with dealers, man! :

I'm gonna move this to the Vendor's Forum, but I will leave the re-direct behind for others to follow.

Tell me about it! Gonna build my next car on my own. How about a ground-up build of a '69 Dodge Charger? Had my eye on one with a 440HP motor, Borg Warner T-10 tranny with a 3.73 rear. Needs restoration but when it comes to a Dodge...been there, done that!

Did you know that Park Ave. BMW was suspended on ebay (like ebay really cares though) for a while because of crappy car sales. Lots of complaints about how car was not the way it was advertised and stuff. So Park Ave BMW started a new SN for the time being until ebay reinestated them.
Their parts department was so-so. When first got the 318, i needed to change the valve gaskets and when i bought the gasket, they "forgot" to include the 4 gaskets for each spark plug hole. I had to go back and get the remaining parts. The apologized but that didn't give back the second trip and the wait I had to do for the fix.

A year later and they still haven't cleaned up their act, huh? Too bad. Been taking the car to Gearhart BMW (now called Denville BMW) in Denville, NJ. They're better but no dealer is perfect. Maybe I just ask for too much....

Lately I haven't been going there (Gearhart). Going to Motor Works West for just about everything now whether it would have been covered under warranty or not. Knock wood I haven't needed any warranty work. It is a bit of a hike but they are great people there.

Of the two dealers, Gearhart would be my choice.

i used Park Ave for a few warranty issues...bought my car CPO'dfrom them...

about 3 weeks after i got it, the DSC & BRAKE lights came on...i tried to make an appointment, told me it was a 2 week wait; i asked if they thought it was safe to drive the car w/these lights on, "sure, no problem"...i checked the brake fluid after this conversation and it was way down...i called them back and said i was bringing it in ASAP. turned out to be an improperly connected brakeline which they admitted must have happened during the CPO process...pick up the car, jump on rt. 17N to head home, hear a rattling sound, pull off a few miles down the road in Fair Lawn, get out and realize the hood was never fully closed...btw, had a POS ford focus loaner..

second service was for control arm bushings...replaced under warranty, which was good...however i waited over 2 hours (had to call in late for work!!!) for a loaner and had to ride to enterprise w/their rep in Hackensack to pick up a huge POS Dodge Neon.

I use Motor Works West for non warranty stuff since they are a 1/2 mile from my office and Dave and crew really know their stuff...Ben at Rogue is great too, and he's about 3 miles from my office which works out well...if i have to go back for warranty stuff, i may try Wide World of Cars (on Ben's recommendation) even though they are a bit out of the way for me...

I took my car there once and never again. I took my car there for a recall on my headlights, when I get there I ask the manager if any of his techs have expirience working on the 8 series, he tells me sure we get about 10 of the 8 series BMW's in a month, I look at him like Yeah right who are you kidding? there arent 10 8 series in northern NJ, anyways, I tell them to be carefull with the light buckets because they are known to get broken by inexpirienced techs, he tells me " dont worry about it this is my main guy an old timer he knows the 8" calls me 1 hour later telling me " your right the buckets broke" now they have to order new buckets...all in all they have my car for 10days and I am driving a crap loaner. when I get my car back and get home I noticed that on the invoice they gave me with the milage on the car when it went in had 500 more miles on it when it went out, so some F U K E R was pimping my car around for those days, they are lucky it was Memorial day weekend and it was after hours when I picked up my car, I had no real proof since I noticed the milage when I got home and it was over the long weekend, they could have said that I put that extra milage on. anyways..STAY AWAY FROM PARK AVE BMW!!!!!!!

I know a guy who works there...we bought our 96 m3 new from them. Also, look at Morristown BMW, thats where we bought the e46 m3. (great service department without the ridiculous 2 week wait most dealers claim)

Dave at Motor Works West is a good guy but he charges absurd amounts for basic stuff....dealer pricing at a minimum.

Morristown BMW is my absolute favorite BMW dealer for service. We bought our X5 there and they have always been quick on scheduling and just as fast with any warranty repairs. They also have a second CPO location which I use for quick visits. Their lone service manager is absolutely fantastic.

    Thanks

Thank you for the compliments about our dealership. We try to do our best to make our customers happy. By the way, who was your salesperson? I just started here at Morristown BMW and hopefully I can get happy customers just like yourself.

Good to have someone from a local dealership on the board Are you a salesperson at Morristown? If so you should definitely stick around...great way to pick up some customers.

Morristown is infinitely better than Prestige or Park Avenue
