I have a chance to pick up 16 inch rims with DR's on them for a pretty decent price. Will the 16 inch rims help me, or will 17 inch be more preferable?
TIA!
16's would be better. More sidewall(hook up better) and lower rotational inertia for faster traps.Originally posted by NoSoup4U

16" good. 15" better! 17" out of the picture!

You can't fit 15" rims on late model BMW's due to their larger brake sizes.
Speaking of that NoSoup4U, what kind of car do you drive? If its an E36 M3, I think only a select few 16" rims will BARELY clear the brakes.
16's will be better for Drag Racing than 17's, for sure.
Uh, yeah you can.Originally posted by Def

Nothing short of a custom 15" would even fit on the rear of my Z3 3.0, and no 15" wheel would not fit over my front brakes... I looked into it extensively...
Custom 15" wheels fit over my rear rotors and calipers. Forget the fronts ... I'm worried about 17" clearing let alone 15".

I hear ya. I'm looking into custom Kodiak wheels for about $360 per wheel for my rear in 16x9 sizes to fit 26x9.5-16 Hoosier QTP racing slicks, and then some matching 16x6 fronts with some 195/65-16's. The rear's weigh like 13.5 lbs, and the fronts like 12 lbs....

I knew that general statement was going to bite me in the ass.
On BMW's performance-oriented models since ~'95, 15" rims will not fit all the way around. I don't know why you'd use different sized rims front and rear(diameter here, not width), but then again - I don't dragrace much.
Hey, my car is performance-oriented! The 15x7 stockers still fit on. Maybe the drag racers should 'upgrade' to ti brakes. They are lighter...Originally posted by Def
