The time has come to sell my beloved 850i. I thought I'd keep it forever, but I simply cannot afford its maintenance and gas any longer. As an undergraduate, I need something more economical for my daily commutes to school and work. I've owned this car for about 11 months and have put about 19K miles on it - all highway driving. The oil has been changed religiously with Royal Purple 5W30 every 3.5K miles, and the Inpection 2 was just performed, which included new spark plugs, motor oil, transmission fluid, gear oil, air filters, and fuel filter. Here's a list of things also worth mentioning:
- 18" Mille Miglia rims
- OEM thrust rods/bushings replaced
- OEM sway bar links replaced
- OEM tie rods replaced
- 850CSi shift knob
- Brand new Kumho ECSTA MX (225/40/18)
- Bilstein shocks
- Dinan replacement intake manifold gaskets
- Throttle body servomotor replaced (one cylinder bank only - the other side has shown no signs of trouble)
- Transmission and clutch/flywheel replaced with new crate replacement at 75K(original owner was duped into replacing these units; this was a $7.5K service order)
I have all records and manuals back from 1991.
The 850i makes a wonderful touring car. An 80mph cruise is a mere 2300rpm and about 23mpg. The engine is so flexible that from 80mph, you can accelerate pretty well in 6th gear, but if you need more, you can shift down to 5th or 4th or even 3rd. Long term average in mostly commute driving is 16mpg - not bad for a V12.
I'll have more pics soon.
