    hey so I am having an ABS light problem after doing this (about a month after)

    The codes thrown relate to the front right wheel speed sensor. I replaced the sensor, cleared the codes and it just comes right back on.

    I hear it may be the abs control module...

    The thing is, I deleted my traction control and put the 10ohm resistor as stated in the thead..

    Could that be the problem?

    I never knew how easy it was to lock the tires w/o abs on these cars and I already ruined a brand new pair of tires..

    I may hold 328iJunkie liable

    I was wondering if it would work on a 325i?

    Did you just get a Volt-Ohm-Meter and check the resistance on the ASC unit and then add a resistor that matched the resistance?

    In response to the 318i, try it with banana plugs or by holding the resistor in place and see what happens.

    Another quick question, is the ASC light fault something the dealer has to reset or does it go out by itself once the problem is fixed?

    -ABS or ASC faults dont need to be reset, they go off once you fix the problem.
    -You shouldnt need to do this on a 95 because you dont have ASC
    -Rob if the resistor or anything has come loose then yes this could be your problem but the dealer should have picked up a code for it i think.
    -I honestly have no experience with 318s but all it takes is to test the resistance across the ASC acutator and replace it with that same resistance resistor haha.
    -Clayman, Pull off the boot that protects that wire connector for the harness and see what 4 wires go into the connector. Then rip out your bently (or i will if need be) and itll tell you which wires are which at that connector.

    My car definitely has ASC. I have a 325i if that matters.

    Slight clarification:

    At least on the non-M, ASC was indeed offered on the '95 e36. Option code 214 (Automatic Stability Control+Traction).

    i *think* it was even available on some '94 models, but I don't know for sure.....

    I have a mid to late production 325is (06/95) and it has ASC+T.

    My guess is that if you had ASC+T, you did not get the winter package, but just a guess....

    Anyway, great post on the fix for those that dump ASC, didn't mean to jack the thread! Just saw something I knew! hehe....

    Is it possible to do this without permanently damaging the boot??

    Haven't had the chance to go and try pulling the rubber boot yet, but for anyone who's interested, I've traced the two wires in the Bentley and they eventually lead to the ABS computer inside the glovebox.

    How it goes there (via the round plug, I hope?) still remains a mystery until I go to the shop..

    I removed my ASC system on my 96 M3 today. I then put on the stock non-ASC black rubber boot for $25 (13-54-1-703-588). Another boot will work in a pinch (13-54-1-738-757), but you will have to plug a second rubber hole (easy). Initially, 3 lights were on my dash. CEL, ASC and ABS. I hooked the MAF connector, because I forgot that......so after 4 starts, the CEL went away. I then did the 10 ohm resistor trick for $1.49. I thought the 10 ohm resistor would remove the ASC light, but the resistor removed the ABS light. The ASC light is still on. I'm considering the Black Tape on the Dash method, but I would rather not do that if someone knows? knows?

    Well, the ASC light it still on since the ASC actuator is unplugged (the cylindrical motor w/steel line on it), so the best solution is to just remove the gauge cluster and remove the lightbulb for the ASC Warning Light.

    Pull the bulb.

    I fixed my ABS by changing the resistor. I dont know why it crapped out on me

    You might need to get a higher wattage resistor. If the wattage is too low then it will just burn it out.

    nono watt not ohm.. you want a more power handling resistor. Still 10 ohms though.

    Putting a 1 Watt resistor across the wires won't cut it. If the car tries to engage that actuator for any reason the resistor will fry. You will need at least a 15 Watt resistor. Here are the calculations:

    I = V/R (I = 12/10 = 1.2A)
    P = I*V (P = 1.2*12 = 14.4 Watts)

    I recommend just leaving the actuator connected, ugly as it may be.

    How many people are using this resistor method successfully? I just got my Samco boot and I'm about to swap it in, should I do this?

    im using it, it hasnt burnt out at all. my abs light still comes on after driving for a couple of minutes due to other unknown reasons =(. apparently there is another asc delete kit that will keep the actuator and throttle cable, but throttle body will be removed. no abs light, and will still brake the rear wheels..dunno where its at though. i think its like 20 bucks. my friend has it on his m coupe
