98 M3 Evap canister problem in track only car

We mounted balast in the spare tire well (3 45lb plates--about 5-6 inches thick) and just remounted the evap on top of the stack of plates using the stock bolt. This weekend at Iowa Speedway (roval with the empahsis on oval) we discovered that the evap cannister was filling with liquid gas and spilling it out the vent tube. Why is it doing this? The engine was also stuttering in the paddock occasionally and when running cool down lap. Could it be related?

Since it's no longer registered I don't care about emissions. Can I delete this without any harmful side effects to doing this?

Remove the evap canister and plug off the hoses. You don't need it anyway.. I thought balast was only allowed in the passenger footwell...

Ballast - Any ballast to meet weight must be placed entirely in the front
and/or rear passenger side floor area and/or the spare tire well in the trunk,
and must be securely bolted to the chassis.
    Each segment of ballast must
weigh not more than 50lbs, and must be fastened with a minimum of two
12mm bolts and positive lock nuts of metric grade 8.8 or better, and must
    utilize large diameter, load-distributing washers.

If your running the stock DME. Its going to check for system operations sooner or later so when that time comes it will see that its not there and set a code for you to read.

Sure, if you don't care about the other codes ... Apparently BW can flash the code out of the DME ... I'd love to get that done, but for now, I just drive with the stupid CEL on

Kyle, how did your EVAP delete go? Did you snap any pics? Was thinking about taking mine out... it seems like a good opportunity for weight loss and to simplify the car a bit.

CEL is already burnt out, lol.

    REMOVE THE CANNISTER OUT.

BUT LEAVE THE SENSOR PLUGGED IN. (without the sensor it throws CELs)

So all it takes is take out the canister from the spare wheel well and plug up the 2 lines to the canister?

If you search there are a few very good write ups on this. On my M3, I removed the canister, plugged up the two blue lines, but extended the big black line with fuel hose - making two big loops in the trunk area over the battery and then putting the end outside the car with a K&N breather filter.

If somebody finds a EVAP delete write-up, can you link it here? I have been searching for the last two days and cannot find it.

Maybe I am searching the wrong terms? EVAP delete came up with this thread as the best result. What other names does the EVAP go by? (so I can search better)

    Hey all,

9 years later and I still can't find a good answer.

Here is a diagram i found in another thread and marked up of the stock OBD2 system:

Looks like hose #3 vents to the charcoal canister. Is hose #12 also a vent? I goes to the intake manifold. Maybe more likely it draws vacuum from there to suck the gas vapors into the charcoal canister? I have an M50 manifold and don't remember how i dealt with that hose at the manifold.

Here is a pic of the canister and hoses:

    gasvent.jpg

Would this approach to deleting the canister work? Should hose 12 be capped? I would think so if under vacuum. Not if its a vent. My car is a dedicated track car, but is still registered. It hasn't been emissions tested via computer in awhile, but its possible they could scan it. It currently has no codes so it'd be kind of nice to avoid new ones. Can anyone confirm if keeping #1 plugged in prevents a CEL?

What is the expansion tank for? is it necessary?

    Thanks!
