    Ignition Cylinder Issue

My 98 740il did a bad thing... The ignition tumbler broke. I received a new one from BMW and followed the instructions to remove the old one. Only trouble is is that the old one will not come out! The key just spins and spins and I can't seem to get the hard wire inserted to release the cam to pull out the old cylinder. The dearlership said that it might be tough, but this is ridiculous! Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated as shes sitting in a parking garage in downtown Boston

The fattest paper clip you can find, that will fit into that hole. I suspect - but haven't tried - that a cheap metal hanger from the dry cleaners may be a little stiffer. And put a little bit of a bend in the rod. What you're trying to do is push the spring out of the way. The spring you're trying to move is like one little tiny leaf out of a leaf spring, being used a key in a slot. The rod pushes up on the spring and unlocks the cylinder.
