yea same here.... ?
i started to notice my mileage go down a bit and think that it might be the K&N filter that looks a little dirty.
when you get the K&N service kit it has instructions. with an ITG you use Warm soapy water.

yep, get the k&n service kit. the kit contains a cleaner and an oil. most performance shops and some auto shops carry it. i got mine from pep boys.
mine is dirty too, but i haven't gotten around to cleaning it yet.
What I do is take the filter off and run a hose through it from the inside going out. After you have done this, take a bucket of warm, soapy water and dunk the filter for 30 to 60 minutes. The water needs to be changed a few times though to ensure the filter is being cleaned. After this, I was told not to use the brush included in the cleaning kit because instead of removing dirt, it only pushes it in. So after you stop seeing dirt coming off the filter in the bucket of water. Remove it and let the filter dry for 2-3 days before oiling it. After the filter has been oiled, let it sit for 3-4 days. Be very careful not to use too much oil as this may cause problems. Because of the lengthy procedure, it is probably a good idea to buy a spare filter so you are not rushing this cleaning procedure.

B) Run the filter under tap water with the water going from INSIDE the filter to the OUTSIDE.
C) Keep running water through until dirt is minimized
D) Let Dry
E) Spray the Oil. Let Dry (~20 min). Again spray those areas you missed. Let dry.
F) Place back on car.

What are you supposed to do while the filter is drying? I didn't exactly keep my stock air filter when I got my K&N. How often do you have to clean it too?

It takes only a couple of hours to do it. You don't have to go through that whole week process, as described above.Originally posted by little740girl

I'd suggest cleaning it every 3K miles (or every time you change the oil- that might be easier to keep track of).
As I recall, it suggests to clean it every 6K, and more often if you drive in the dirt a lot. But I do it every 3K. It's better be safe, than sorry.

a) Drink a cold one.
b) really variable. Check how dirty it is. If you live in a dirty/dusty environment, probably with every oil change.

alright, so it's not a process that takes a few days, as Eroc claims, that's good to hear. How much is the kit? Haha, now all I need is a few hours to clean it :-/

I'm glad I saw this thread. I havent cleaned my filter in over a year because I've just forgotten about it. I wonder if it'll improve anything after I clean it this weekend?

I think everyone is blowing this out of proportion. There is no need to buy a new one - they've got a million mile warranty. They're supposed to be cleaned and oiled routinely.
I've been doing the same procedure //M_Wraith outlined for years. It also doesn't take that long. I usually remove, rinse and re-charge my filter while I'm working around house on a sunny weekend.

On a sunny day, it should take about an hour...
you can do it while washing the car. Make sure you flush the particles OUT, not in. Hose goes in the open end and pushes the dirt out.
The ideal situation is to have two filters, keep one clean, so you can swap them out and take your time cleaning the dirty one.

I have no idea...as far as part numbers, as I don't deal with that filter.
The one on the Conforti kit should, but you will need another length of the silicone hose to attach it to our tube due to the ITG velocity stack being metal.
Hope that helps.
