    Are E46 bodies rust resistant?

More specifically, are the e46 bodies galvanized? I am interested in purchasing one which I think is from Maryland. Down here in Atlanta, we don't buy cars from up north. But if the body is galvanized I'll be very tempted.

    Thanks all.

My 03 is under the rust protection warranty until 2009....

And yes, they have an excellent underbody treatment.

umm no mine is rusting in several places. if the bare metal is exposed like mine is now it will rust. I am having it fixed here very soon before it gets out of hand.

What do you think we northerners do to our cars?

Assuming you don't scrape the car down to bare metal it won't rust.

We think you drive your cars on snow covered roads in the presence of salt and on poorly maintained roads. Am I generally correct?

Yes, speaking for midwesterners, we definitely have to deal with the DOT salting the roads...AND since we get harsh winters...our roads get beat the hell up really fast.

We suck, for driving conditions. Most of us have winter cars, or particular winter regimens for preventing rust. Personally, I wash the car every 72 hours when driving on salted roads...no joke.

NJ winters are also a Beeeatch! And you are pretty much correct M6...but I wouldn't trade New Jersey for the world (and definitely not ATL but I still got love for the south)!

I'm headed down to ATL in a few weeks, I'll be sure to report back on the conditions of the bimmers I see...lol...

From having worked at a dealer...a *lot* of the sweetest cars we got in the auctions were from texas or another southern state.

In Washington, the DOT puts down some pre-ice de-icer liquid...

That liquid de-icer is about twice as reactive than regular salt.
