I may be able to help you with this one, there are clips similar to those holding the door panel on. you must pull them up to gain access to the belt tensioners. I've yet to remove one without breaking it! ha ha
I'll look-up the part number for you also.

my top crapped out the other day. first i thought of the fuse. looked in the box and checked all 3. they seemed ok. had to get the top up so i manually disconnected the top motor and pulled the cables from inside the trunk. i searched further and found this post. was video instructed on where the actual lever is and how to reconnect the motors.
the top still didn't work so i checked the fuses again and did find one of them was bad. luckily i had one in the cover and replaced it.
i applied the motor resynch technique and it actually worked. holy cr@p!
i need to say a hardy thank you for the time and effort to put together these videos and instructions for all of us who really need them... and don't really have the extra $$$ to donate to a stealership.
I know this is an old forum but the roll bars behind the head rests do they raise when i popped out my rear seat and fixed a seat belt strap i noticed it is capable can it be modified to do so, is it supposed to, if it is what is the fuse mine doesn't engage, and finally how do i adjust my boot cover so that it will lift fully? my rear window area hits it on the up and down cycle.
Sorry for the questions. i just got a new e36 and am knocking out all the little kinks
i'm having problems manually put my top up, it stops at this point. Not sure if something is suppose to release so it can go down. Any help would be appreciated.

Very nice - thanks for the video! I am doing this work now and picked up some good tips.
Hey Zach - I just bought a 96 328IC from friend and he told me the top needed replaced, and it would be 2K... I found this forum today and it needs the strings restrung. Thanks..
btw - got a fix for the headliner coming loose on the front (above the drivers side visor)? That would be great...
Vert Mom... ;-)
Let me bring this thread back to life.
The time and effort you took for the videos is absolutely inspiring. I also noticed there is no video on how to replace straps and the rear plastic window.
Keep up the good work

I have full auto top. I got to the point where I was able to lock the top motor but not the cover motor. I mean after I engaged the top motor, the next step would be to engage the cover motor, and I did the just the way your video showed but I did not hear any clicks. So now my cover isn't working after trying to close the top.
What did I do wrong? Please help.

Hi Zack...
I just had to repair & re-string my dog-ears.
Since the original OEM cord was intact, measured it, for everyone's information - exactly 24" long.
?? Did you ever build your own wind-blocker for the 'vert ??
