BMW 2002 tii purchasing question

I found a 1973 BMW 2002 tii for 3k

It is currently not running and the add provides the following details:

Modifictions done k&N filter Headers -- custom made Lowering springs-stiff Bilstein sport shocks Adjustable rear suspension--camber adjustable -- 80/100 watt headlights a HUGE improvement!!! Has the black interior (front and rear seats) out of a 1983 320is -- black and in very good condition 320is rear brakes Upgraded radiator Recent work done (all within the last 5000 miles) master cylinder New timing belt all new brakes (PADS, DRUMS/ROTORS,BRAKE LINES and front CALIPERS) coil and condensor Brand New Tires -- less than 100 miles on them! 1973 BMW 2002 Tii restoration project. Has been sitting for years and requires restoration. Some rust but limited to rocker area. Shock towers, floor boards, frame are excellent. Engine ran excellent when last put away now it won't start. Upgraded brakes, seats (Recaros). First $3000 takes her. It does not run will need to be towered away.


Pretty much requires a full restore, fix up and paint.

What would be a good price to purchase this car (if its even worth it)?
How much $$ would it need to do a full restore?

What kind of value will it fetch in restored state?

The voice of experience here... hope I can shed some light on this for you.

Unless you are really wanting a multi-thousand dollar restoration project where time and money don't matter in terms of completion and cost, buy the most restored car you can afford to buy.

I was advised by some great people who did it before I did mine, a long time ago -- that you are time and money ahead to start with the best condition car you can afford to buy and go from there.

For some people, those in or near California, Arizona, Texas, where many cars exist, this is a patience game that can pay off. Where I live, the chances of finding a car like you show here are pretty slim so you take what you can get and run with it, or go to the dry states and drag them home.

As far as value goes, don't expect to return your investment in this car for quite a while - this isn't like you found a numbers matching Hemi Cuda Convertible or 67 Z/28 Camaro worth a mint no matter what condition it's found in. These cars are a labor of love that you generally own and drive for the fun of driving, not collecting.

I was interested in this car for a while. He initially asked for $3,500, now $3,000. I like the 1973 style , but figured that this car would require a lot of work. Also, you really don't know why its not running other than what the seller is claiming. I went ahead and just bought a 1974 Tii in runnning condition with sunroof and air conditioning. I have my new project, but not has severe. Good luck.

Understand Andy, sounds like that one may not have been all it appeared to be after all which explained the price. So what did you buy American... and old if I may ask?
