Thinking of making the m3 my weekend/track car

I went to my first autocross, and I decided I definitely want to start upgrading the supension and tires on the m3. However, if I start making the m3 a track car it will no longer be suitable as a daily driver. I would get race seats, lightweight wheels, all that. So, is it a good idea to make the m3 a track car and get something else to drive daily, or get another car for the track and keep the m3 as the daily driver?

I'm intending on tracking in the near future, so that's why I'm likely trading in the M3 for a Z06 in the spring. For the track, the Z06 outperforms the M3 in most performance measurements. Also, I find the Z06 much easier and cheaper to mod in the future should you require more out of your car. If I wanted a daily driver, I think the M is much better suited.
Don't know if you can stomach the inferior fit and finish and interior quality of the Z. It's why I didn't buy the Z last year in the first place. But for tracking, the Z can't be beat in many facets.
The depreciation on a Z is high, so you could always pick up a year or two old one for a good price, if cost is a concern.

Keep us updated on your decision, and good luck!

Yeah, I'd keep your E46 as your sporty daily driver and get another track car, like an E36 M3, more mods available, FI, etc...

Or an E30. It is a handling car, so it would probably be your best bet for auto-xing.

Is the e30 a better track car then the e36?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by hundreds of engineers that get paid thousands of dollars for something you bought at Pep Boys because your buddy who doesn't have a job told you it was 'better'?!?

Some say, SOME, that the E30 is the best M3 ever. Sure arguments will ensue, but I have never driven one. I can only speak from what others say.

Stock, an e30 is a better autocrosser than an e36. On the track, stock, they're both great.

Once you pour a ton of cash into them both, strip out the interiors, etc, they can both be made to track or autocross quite nicely.
