330d (turbo diesel).. aftermarket exhaust systems?

im no Turbo Diesel expert... but is it possible
to get some kind of nice sound from a aftermarket
exhaust for the turbo diesel engines?

Was hoping you would have got a reply by now as im intersested in changing the exhaust on my 330d. If a nice noise isnt possible to obtain is there a good sports cat that can be fitted to help the breathing?? Sorry to hijack your thread.

There are several folks on the Jetta TDI board that remove their mufflers and replace with a straight pipe. Seems they are a bit louder but not obnoxiously so--of course that's with a 1.9L turbodiesel 4. Even with chips and injectors....

Compared to WHAT??
2005 330D specs:
Weight fully fueled with average driver: 1575KG/3516LBS (a 330i weighs about that doesn´t it?)
3,0l Turbo commonrail direct inject straight 6
Power hp: 204
Torque: 410NM (303FT/lbs)
(ECU flash gives you 250 hp and 550NM (405 ft/lbs).. at a cost ~1000$ US
Oh.. and a fuelconsumption of ~35 MPG

And say you want an E90.. BMW has a 335 diesel on the market..
The new twin turbo 335D will give you 286hp and 590Nm (429 ft/lbs) STOCK.
Flash THAT car and your talking 340 hp and 660 NM (488 ft/lbs)
Top speed of 177 mph. And a consumption ~31 MPG
NOW say you don´t want one!

Diesel are easy to tune, have LOADS of power and give great gas milage. The only think lacking is that the engines have a pretty narrow power band. They reach max torque at around 1700-2200 RPM and max power is seldom above 4000RPM. That usually leads to pretty tall gears. Weight IS heavier, but not THAT much.

You also can't really compare engine horsepower numbers between a diesel engine and a gasoline engine, because horsepower is mathematically computed using RPM, and diesel engines generally rotate much more slowly than equivalent gas engines.

I suppose you could compare rear-wheel horsepower, using the rotational speed of the tire.


I'd sell a kidney to get my hands on a 330D...

But i guess I´m stuck with my little piddly 2.0 for now. Good thing i beat the CRAP out of my brothers A4 2.4i Auto from 40-100 mph!

word!! i love bmw diesel!!!!!! i do have a X5 3.0d and its a great performance, but i dont like the idea of a new exaust.
