Talking OMG, just had a run-in with a Diablo!!

I was coming home from work, and I saw a red Diablo followed by a Yellow one turning left onto the street i was travelling on (Dyer and Grand for you Orange County people). As I was stuck at a red light, I didn't think much of it, besides the fact that close to half a million dollars worth of automobile just drove by

As I approach the light where I am going to turn left, I notice that the red car makes it through the yellow light and the yellow car gets stuck. Imagine the grin on my face as I pull up right behind him. It was a very new VT with the two large center-exiting exhaust pipes. Let me tell you, it sounded mean just sitting there at idle.

I am on the phone with a friend of mine (Daryl with the nogaro S4 for those who know him), and I tell him to hang on, I'll be right back

As the light turns green, I don't know if he saw me (Diablos have an insanely small rear window), as he took it very easy through the turn. As soon as he straightens out though, he guns it. I can hear that engine racing through the rpms and so of course, being the good little boy that I am, follow suit.

First gear is over in an instant and I make a quick shift to second. He hasn't shifted yet and his car is getting louder and louder. However, he's not pulling away! Through all of my second gear, he puts maybe a car length on me. I'm approaching redline in second, so a quick shift to third and I'm still gunning it. He isn't making any more progress!

We came up on traffic at about 85-90 and we both slammed the brakes. Hehe, stock brakes are pretty good, especially when you don't wanna rear end a 200k dollar Italian supercar

Now I know this guy couldn't have been the best of drivers, because he should have wasted me. But I know for sure he was on it hard, I could hear that thing wailing. He was probably thinking to himself, How in the hell is this BMW keeping up with me?!?

He jumped into the left turn lane about a half mile later, so I didn't get a chance to give him a proper wave through the window, but this will be an experience I will not forget for a very long time.

No offense, but I don't think he was racing you.

You just mentioned how small the window was. I don't think he saw you, but if he did, he probably has no need to prove himself to you.

    Dude

get a grip. He wasn't serious. No offense, but a diablo is 0-60 in <4 seconds. You wouldn't have had a chance. It is pretty cool that you got to see a car like that up close.

bad driver though...bad driver means slower times...when I first got my car I couldn't do crap at all...now I can mildly do crap. So maybe it was some rich muff who just wanted to pick up a chick and didn't know how to drive.

I didn't say I was an expert. I just don't think your car can hang with a Diablo. You were there, I wasn't. But you also were not inside the guys car, therefore you don't know if he was racing either.

    Thats all

So what's the diff between a porcupine and a Lamborghini Diablo? I think you guys all know the answer to this one.

The Lambo driver probably had nothing to prove AND was a bad driver. Most exotics are insanely fast, but are mostly for show because of horrendous ergonomics and limited visibility. It takes one helluva skilled driver to control one of those beasts. For the money, I'll take a Hennessey Viper or an NSX anyday.

I guess penis size is inversely proportionate to the purchase price of an exotic automobile.

Could have been a kit car

A neighbor of mine had two different Diablo kit cars. They look amazingly real (I've seen the real deal also) He was an idiot and tried to convice everyone it was real, but it was a fiero-framed kit with a vette engine. You could have raced something like that.

It definitely was not a kit car. Kit cars do look pretty real, but they don't sound like what I heard nor are they as wide or as long as the real thing (in general). I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about cars and I am positive it was real and it he was pushing it hard.

Platinum Motors, a Lambo dealer, is in the area, so it is likely the driver was a mechanic taking the car out for a spin.

Dude......you can hang with a Diablo in a Supercharged M3. In fact you should actually beat the Diablo until you hit redline in fifth at around 159mph.

All I know is that Diablos are geared for a very high top end and a supercharged M3 can use 100% of its 340+hp on the street. And also its pretty hard putting the Diablo down through 1st and 2nd on the street.

Granted the diablo is a fast ass car. Its like a Viper, tractionless off the line. Those cars dont grip for anything.

    Supercharged M3 = Diablo Killer!

You people need to do some research.

Also bottom line is an AA Turboed M3 has no problem handing a diablos ass to him. So why doesnt everybody support your fellow bimmers instead of knocking him cause he said he hange with a diablo. Look 10K$ supercharger in his signature. I dont doubt it at all!!!!!!!

Uh... its a Dinan SC not a AA Turbo... either way I think he could hang with it also.... not beat it, but still be there when the Diablo driver turned his head. I'm not to sure about the turns.... never seen a Lambo drive hard in the curves... but I can imagine.

I don't doubt that you could hang with him. Just take him to the twisties and you'll kill him. As I said before those cars are a handful and are made more for someone's ego than for driveability. I hope he wasn't part of the gold chain and unbuttoned shirt crowd. That would be too hilarious.

I would love to be a mechanic to "test drive" those babies. Excuse me sir, all of that cruising on Rodeo is really bad for the engine. What it really needs is a good wringing out on the freeway to blow out that carbon...and we'll do that at no additional charge.

    good job Vishal

after having driven your lovely car, I don't doubt it would have kept up with a VT (especially after a rolling start--more advantagous to you) up until 85mph. Sounded like a real heart-pounding experience--I could imagin how excited you got right when he started to floor it (uhhh, yeah it's pretty obvious when they do) Those things are so f'n loud! CYA>PM3

Vishal - whatever, dont worry about it. This is just one of those "weird kills". Cmon, you know what I mean, that car you raced that should have burned you but... didnt. Eg. mine: a stock '93 325is hanging with a "new" (no plates) '99 or '00 or whatever Camaro SS... when I should have been brutally murdered, but wasnt : . And for any skeptics: yes we were actually racing... I dont see many people accelerate up to 90 mph with half throttle, you know what I mean?

talk about a rollercoaster of feelings i got just reading through all the replies on this post from "hell yeah!" to "damn you're a moron" to "wtf are u thinking?" to "preach brother! preach!"

without a doubt Vishal knows his cars. i've spoken with the rat bastard (hehe...j/k) myself on many occasions. when're you're a car freak like most of us are....you know you're shit and you know a new VT when you see (let alone practically become deaf from hearing) one....thats just the way it works.

also without a doubt he kept up to the thing. again....he said that the VT only got a car on him....which is VERY believable. for the love of god people...i've handed a few m3's their asses on some street races (w/my 96 328i 5spd w/intake/exhaust). from a stop light....i've kept up with a brand new no plates camaro SS as well all the way up into the triple digits.

slap a dinan stage 2 S/C on an m3 and ya got mad loads of power as you people know. give Vishal some credit....he's a damn good driver. and if you're excuse is "well the diablo guy probably didn't know how to drive it".....tough fuggin luck....shouldn't have been driving it in the first place!

Great story Vishal. It wasn't like you were saying you "killed" the 'VT' Bull, but were able to keep up respectfully for a bit.

    Gio

P.S. - Thanks for letting me test out the UUC Short Shifter. After feeling it (even though you were parked at Wheel Power), I'll definitely go with the Ron Stygar SS.

some people need to buy a clue

Most Diablos are awd, not really a wheel spinner of the line.

You said you shifted and went thru 2nd, so that should take you to around 60, or 5ish seconds.

If he was in 1st and floored it he would have had less than 4 secs to shift to 2nd,

Therefore I would conclude that he WASN'T racing!

No for the forced induction cars...

A dinan supercharged M3 turns what, maybe a low 13 high 12(i doubt this) 1/4 mile and the lambo is soo much faster than that so I don't think you are going to hang with him, again with awd he is not going to have traction problems off the line where YOU WILL.

Now tampaturbos car or one with a similar setup should keep up with the lambo but again I think it will get SPANKED off the line, RWD VS AWD. Diablo's are insane cars lets keep what our cars can do, majorly modded or not in reality.

Dirver in a Diablo doesn't really matter up until a little > than 60

First gear in a Diablo takes you all the way to like 65 or 70. Whether or not the driver is good doesn't matter so much for a 0-60 run because there are no shifts involved. Except for the launch which I would imagine is pretty tough with 530 hp. If it was a VT, though, it would be a little easier. A brand new Diablo should destroy an M3. Of course, you are supercharged which gives you more advantage than a stock m3 but still, he should be a second or so faster to the 60. Still, sounds like a great experience. Congrats!

    V Shah or anyone else,

Got a question for you. I'm thinking about getting a '95 M3 w/ a Dinan SC. What kind of hp/torque and 0-60 and 1/4 figs do you have on the car? It has a 3.46 diff, Big Bore and I have no idea about Stage 1 vs Stage 2 SC.
