Where would you get a rpm signal for data acquisition?

So just taping the wire won't cause any signal degradation, or impedance problems? Is it just a pulse signal?

    Thanks

It's a pulsed signal and although using a DMM would indicate ~5-6v signal pulsed, it's actually a 12v signal pulsed as I have found with a scope - seems most DMMs cannot aquire 12v pulsing fast, so it shows a 6v load at half duty basically.
