    6spd in a 330

Why is the 6spd not offered in the 3 series? I know the Z4 3.0 has a 6spd, why not the 3.0 3 series?

You can now get the six-speed on a 330ci, or just the 330i Performance Package?

They will only make the HP package in the sedan. They will only make the M3 in a Coupe. There are some good reasons, and some bad ones.....but that is they way it is....

I figured that the performance package was a way of making up for not making hte M3 sedan.

hmmm actually, it seems that the 2004 330Ci and Cic will come with a standard six-speed manual transmission...

    from bmwusa.com
The 330Ci Coupe and Convertible are renown for their driving dynamics. Those dynamics will be further enhanced for 2004 with the addition of a standard six-speed manual transmission. This fall both the 325Ci and 330Ci Coupes and Convertibles will be available with an optional six-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox.

Isn't that just added weight? I read that a team that was racing an M coupe kept the 5-speed instead of the 6-speed because it meant less shifting, and less weight.

not really. it all depends on the design and the material it is made from. I think reading the new 7's auto 6 speed is lighter than the old 7's auto 5 speed
