Just curious to get a price check for:
* Replacement motor cost
* Replacement motor plus necessary preventative repair (i.e. TCGs)
I have a line on an '02 M5 with about 180k on the odo, but with an engine that's got ~140k miles on it (runs REALLY well).
Thoughts?

Engine prices are always all over the map. Even miles aside, is it an engine out of a wreck that still runs and you can hear it and a tidy BMW Indy shop is going to pull it out for you in a tidy way, which will be probably a bit more expensive but low risk? Or is it like if I called my local big junkyard and asked for a motor in which case it would be taken out of some mystery dead car with the words "runs" written in paint pen on the side by Raoul and Esteban with a combination of bolt cutters and oxy-torch and a forklift, probably in the rain and set down in the mud for a few hours while they take a lunch break. And theoretically you get a 'guarantee' but that really just means Raoul and Esteban go out and do the same thing with another "who the hell knows what that engine is like" car. That said...
Typically $1-1.5k for M62TU's maybe in the 100k mis? Maybe get one for less from a private seller, definitely get one for less with more miles on it.
S62's are more in the $5k range, plus or minus mileage factor.
TCG? Do it yourself, or pay somebody? Gonna be anywhere $1-2k typically, depending on how much 'and also' stuff you do and how much of the actual TCG parts you replace and who's labor, etc.
