I was gettin gas at the local 76 and a guy pulled up in a new-ish Mustang GT with wheels & exhaust. I noticed he was lookin at my car quite a bit (racing seats, harnesses & no interior will do that). He asks me, "Do you race your car?" We had a small conversation (apparently he works at a nearby Ford dealer). Anyway, he asked if I wanted to race (since we were right on the expressway). I said sure. He had a manual tranny as well. Now, I have killed V6 Mustangs, but I have been told that a GT would kill me as I have never raced one before. I was glad to have the opportunity to finally race one though. We get to the light...pre-revv it...GO! Well, needless to say I beat him off the line (lightweight car & 4.10 rear will do that). Once I shifted into third I noticed he was pullin on me a little, but was still behind because of the start. By the time we hit 110MPH he only had 1/4 to 1/2 car length on me (I guess he pulled 1 whole car length overall since I just had a better launch, I dont know....). I was VERY surprised that I was any match really. I definitely gained A LOT of ground when the road started to curve as I have invested most of my $$$ in suspension. The guy was really cool. He complimented my car & stuff, & I did likewise. All in all, it was one of the best races I have had. Oh well, anyone else have any good stories. Hopefully I wont get flamed for my promoting of reckless driving, though I deserve it...later.................
Wow... I'm surprised too - isn't your engine a 4-cyl, about 110 hp before mods?
Yes, it is a 4 cylinder. Stock, the M42 (my engine) puts out 134HP. The M10 (used until 1984) was 110HP. With a chip & intake, the M42 supposedly puts out 164HP. I have hull exhaust as well. I am surprised none the less..........
Can I ask where you got the intake from?
What do you est. the weight of your car to be? Any pics? Sounds like a nice car. I have an M42 also, only in a 1995 318is 5spd with about 200lbs of weight reduction, so I am in the 2,750lb range and I can tell you with the right bolt-ons and driver, the M42's are no slouch. I can beat my friends 200hp 1998 Convour SVT.
holy shit... from 110 to 164 w/ just a chip and an intake??? that sounds a little high to me... but i may be mistaken
about what do you run 0-60?
i'm running in an 87 325 w/ just a chip and i'm pullin 60 in about 8.5 (mind you that's stopwatch timing, and on dry pavement w/ snow tires : )

Hey man I had a 1991 318is and I loved it. You can really whoop on some V6? Wow! Maybe i should get another 318is. I used to beat the hell out of that car. And it took it just like a Volkswagen would. Must be that German thing. Good to hear that 16V engines can still kick some ass.
Well, as far as the intake I had to do it all myself. I estimate my car's weight to be between 2200 & 2300 lbs, maybe less. I went from 143HP to 164HP also. The M10 had 110HP. Shit, I wish that I could get 56HP from chip & intake, but I guess BMW already did the "right things" to my engine. Oh well, fun times.........
Here is the root directory to all my car pics...my site is under construction at the moment.

Nice race! I can't believe that you held with a GT! Must have been nice launching.

Not too long ago I raced a newer body style GT stang, and my results were also suprising. I have a completely gutted out 325is(only driver seats/dash/cluster remain). As far as mods, I have a K&N filter, no muffler, and chip. Anyway, my car is very loud and everyone tries to race me.
I pulled up to a light next to a newer GT style mustang not knowing wheteher it was an auto or manual. I guess the guy heard me and instantly wanted to kick my ass(so I thought as well). When the light turned green, he nailed it and I sat there spinning for a second(fairly new at launching the E30).Instantly I thought the race was over, but to my suprise I was pulling on him in first and second gear. Every time the guy would shift I would gain 1/3 of a car. By the time we hit 4th I was about 1/2 car in front of him, but stopped pulling. I'm sure if we kept going he would have started to gain again.
When we got to the next light the guy wouldn't even look at me.
Needless to say I was giggling like a school girl!!
