Mods: Mods? Who can afford mods with all the repairs? j/k; we've been blessed that the X5 has had relatively few issues!

    2001 BMW X5 3.0i

Cool Hello all And my feelings about this X5 section.

Hey all"!!! I`m charlie from tampa florida,U.S.A.! Got a 2001 BMW X5 3.0i. Also own a 2000 Chevy blazer-2door-2WD 4.3 and a 2000 Chevy silverado-2door 5.7 4X4 truck and 1 1985 Porsche 911 twin turbo carrera converted into a slantnose soft top and a 1982 Porsche twin turbo hardtop 911,both with 3.2 twin turbo motors and both fully built and restored by me and just 2 of the 27 911 porsches i`ve restored in my life, not to mention the 1978 MGB Gt i just finished and many other trucks and cars i`ve worked on and restored since my daddy threw me under his truck at age 6 and said"change my shocks and the oil boy" LOL!
Point being in this long intro of mine is:::
I`m 32,Been building inground swimming pools and doing construction work since i was 15,And mechanic work just as a hobby and for extra cash and becuase i love new challenges and love too dive into anything i know nothing about,So i`m always learning as i go.
W/T all that said,,,I`ve always loved bmw motors and there design,But after finnaly buying my first one(This X5)i have learnt that there nothing but a waste of commen sense gone arye???
Way to much plastic,Way to much wasted wiren that cuases way to much resistance going from point "A"to pont"B",Parts made with very low quality and materials,BUt cost 200-500% more then any i`ve ever seen before(and restoren porsches were 1 fender costs 1500.00 and a gas pedal cable costs 200.00,i know what i`m talking about). But there inline 6banger and twin cam engines,W/T the Vanos system and all are pretty impressive and what sold me on buying this x5 8 yrs ago,Not to mention the comfort and ride they give you.But just like the 1999 LAND ROVER-RANGE ROVER W/T A 4.0 V8 Ibought and after 80K it took a crap and i found out there way overpriced in parts and have a life of maybe 140k,if boughten and made for americans,THIS is honestley ridiculous!I rebuilt and fixed that rover myself,Too many times and now i find myself doing this on my X5.
BUT?They do not make a haines or chiltons manual for this ride,Or not one i can find or have heard of??And i have asked everywhere if there was one for the X5,And all i get is that its not available. And trying to find how too`s and any clear instructions or pic`s on the web has cost me atleast-Over 500 hours on the web researchen and still nothing worthwhile?Yes i have found the bare minimum to the question i was seeking an answer for,Whitch with my mechanic hystery was enough, but for anyone not skilled, the dealership is maken millions, doing the simplest of simple repairs.
So i hope to writeup some "HOW TO`S ON HERE",Concerning "BRAKE REPLACEMENTS","HOW I DID MY FRONT CV BOOT AND JOINT REPLACEMENTS IN THE PAST","AND HOW I JUST DID MY OWN HEADGASKET REPLACEMENT-W/T OUT ANY BOOK OR HELP BESIDES THE VERY LEAST OF HELP I FOUND ON THE WEB,WHITCH WAS NOTHING BUT AFEW DIAGRAMS THAT DIDNT MEAN MUCH",
But in anycase,Hello to all on here,And hope i havent offended anyone,Hope someone can help me on the one main issue i do have now on my X5,AND HOPE I HELP ALOT OF PEOPLE AFTER DOING AND POSTING MY WRITE UP`S ON HOW TO DO THE MANY THINGS I HAVE DONE ON MY X5 THAT THE DEALERSHIP AND MANY HAVE TOLD ME,THE HOME MECHANIC CAN NOT DO,AT HOME ON AN X5.
Many thanx to the runners of this site and happy turkeyday and happy holidays to all,AND GOD BLESS TO AMERICA AND HER BELOVED TROOPS!!!!
    CHARLIE.
P.S.:I ALSO LOST MY RIGHT EYE 3YEARS AGO THIS CHRISTMAS,SO THERES NO REASON WHY NO1 CANT FIX THERE RIDES!!LOL!!I ADAPTED AND STILL KICK A#$ WRENCHEN!!!

Bentley makes a manual for the X5, it's pricey though.

Your post also hurt my head.

It has been a while since my last post and here we go folks; after extensive search I ended up with this prime example:

Simply put, not to many members on this forum are viewing X section so it was necessary for me to join "xoutpost".

    Cheers

    Hello all,
I was hoping for some tips concerning my 2006 X3 3.0i. It's going in very soon for the free pre-50,000 mile maintenance check and, although it has been running very smoothly, I was hoping for some insight into problem areas/anything I should tell the technician to check.

Hi all recently got an 07 X3 with sport package. I must confess I miss my 330ci but I'm begining to warm to the X3. Got a few questions and will try and post them in the right forum. Also have a BMW K2100LT, which is my first love. Live in La Quinta, CA (near Palm Springs) so there won't be alot of driving in the snow. Doug

Been away for 4+ years after getting rid of our 2000 323. Just picked up a 2007 X3 Black Saphire with the sport, premium & M package. What a great vehicle. Really drives and shifts smooth. This is my wife's "no kid" car when she doesn't need to haul the 4 kids around in the Expedition. Glad to be back in a BMW...........
