I have a 2008 X5 and am having oil leaking from the valve covers I hope. Can the valve covers be tightened to prevent leaking or best to replace the gaskets. It has 140000 on it, 4.8i runs good but
oil leak is getting bad. Thanks for any help.

Tightening won't help, possibly damage the VCs.
Replace the gaskets, they are 10yrs OLD after all!
I have the 08 x5 3.0 and had oil leak from passenger side rear of valve cover and into spark plug wells. Replaced gasket went away then came back 1 month later. Looks like bad pcv valve not letting pressure out causing gasket to fail under too high of pressure forcing oil out. Bought new pcv and new, valve cover with gaskets. Pressure causes micro cracks in plastic.
