I cannot read the writing on the TB. Can you provide a link to it?

    Thanks

It's the Riot Racing BBTB. It is 4mm larger than OEM and has a lighter butterfly for quicker response. The Dinan is only 2mm larger than stock and costs more. On M3 cars this makes 8whp. Since I am in M territory, I expect similar results.

An independent shop saw 4whp on a S50 car.

OK I know alot of you guys know way more about these cars than I do since most of my performance motorwork knowledge is in vtwin cycles. But has anyone found a good balance between super high flow high rev motor work and producing low end power?

At some point you dont provide enough velocity for low end power and sacrifice low end power for high end power, imo these engines produce awesome high end power and why not try to smooth out the power band and get even gains instead of just opening up the intake and exhaust.

Not that getting rid of the TB for the ACS is a bad idea at all. Two mechanical stages is definitaly one too many. I think from 92 to 95 acs was an option BTW, as my 94 had it.

The advantage to buying this boot through Bimmerworold, is that they include two(2) bungs to plug the holes. I used one(1) since the ICV needs to connect to the boot. Trust me, it is a bit pricey, but well worth the investment. You get everything you need, plus top notch quality and durability since it's SAMCO.

I guess if people have good success with it, then it must be good.

Just seems like $150 for a boot with 2 bungs is a bit pricey when you could easily fab up something similar for far less.

If it's for a m3 engine, why the hell would we need to know about it.

Well hopefully us "heavily modded" M52 guys can take advantage of it. Honestly, I would but it just to say "I have a BBTB" lol If it was in that $200 the WCR TB, I'd stay with Bimmerworld. I have already made purchases from them and like the level of service I get with them. James, more info please!

    Cheap alternative avail

I guess this is my first post, but have been lurking here for a long time. This forum rules! I have been looking at this mod for a while, I see you can get a plain old OEM type boot for ~20 from the same site. Also, I seem to remember finding somewhere on the net, that you could use a boot from a z3 (don't quote me). I went looking for the link but could not find it. I really like the blue Samco one, but I could put the extra $ toward the BBTB. Great discussion tho!

Sorry - that wasn't meant as a dangling teaser. I post in a few forums and saw that you were talking about the 3.5" HFM, so I was thinking M3. I am sure there are some 2.8 guys that could use it, but it would need to have something big like the Sunbelt cams. Most of these engines don't really benefit from the 3.5" HFM either until you are to the 250+ crank mark. The only time it is really needed is when you flow enough air to run out of metering capability in the stock 3" piece.

I would be happy to do the math on our TB when we get it wrapped, but it isn't a couple of mm bigger - it is a lot bigger. And to make power, you do need to maintain velocity (smaller opening).
