Anyone here mounted a fuel cell in the trunk and removing the side gas tanks?
I've got a nice fuel cell with a sending unit, etc, and I was thinking I'd like to put that in, as I've already got an issue with the gas tanks having a leak at full fill.
What's under the trunk floor? Any room for the fuel lines to go through etc?
Any thoughts/info would be appreciated.
As a bonus, removing the OE gas tanks would give me room to fit mufflers for side exit exhausts.

I havent owned a car with it done.
But I've certainly done this to 2002s.
We made a rear strut tower brace that had a box built in(like BMW320i.com's rear strut tower brace with the battery box built it, but for a fuel cell.) This way your fuel cell stays centered and doesnt require drilling or tapping into any pans. As for as running lines, you can tap small holes in the forside of the trunk pan and run them in the OEM position. Works wonders! Just make sure your fuel cell has foam in it. Youll have life when you get to a 1/4 tank and fuel stall due to sloshing around.
What's under the trunk floor?? spare tire well and fwd of that is the differential/axles. Most people mount the fuel cell where the spare tire well is.
I was going to post an example pic of David Mcintyre's E-Mod racer but I can't seem to get the pic working.

You can buy fuel cells that fit in your spare tire well.
I'm going to try to get a fuel cell from a guy who races stock cars in my county. he has several cars that he doesn't use anymore, and I'm sure the cell isn't racing legal (but that doesn't matter unless I race it), so I doubt he'd care if I wanted it...

WOW! vtgti I have the exact same cell I put in mine. I just need to hook up the lines but not sure if I need a "lift pump" and accumulator to feed the main pump.
vtgti,
I'll be hooking up the lines on mine this weekend, I'll keep you posted as to how it works out.

Yeah, I just have it feeding directly into the pressure pump.

Seeing what you have done gives me goosebumps, It looks amazing!
I do have a question about what brakes you went with. And what breaks are on the rear as well.
