Same winter tire, 2 different sport wheels

I have 4 identical Blizzak LM22 tires on
the M68 wheels that came with the 2001
330ci sport package ... so one pair is
    17x7.5 and the other is 17 x 8.5. Since
the tires are all the same, does it matter
where the wheels are or should the wider
    wheels be in the back?

    Thanks!!

Wider wheels in the back!!!!!!!!!! They will fit on the front but with only a few mm's of room to spare between rim and strut. One decent pothole bends that rim just a little and suddenly you got a whole mess of problems! As long as the tires are at least 225's, you should be ok with the same size tires all around.

Thanks for replying! After much hesitation and anxiety (I hate calling
people to tell them I think they made a mistake ) I called the shop and
told them my suspicion that they put a wider wheel in front and a narrow
one in back. "Very unlikely that we would do such a thing, but bring it in
..." so I take it in and lo and behold they measure and verify what I saw by
the different gaps between rim and tire and also some quirkyness in the steering.

So now the wide wheels are in the back and narrow ones in the front
    and I feel much better.
