Best place to order Hawk pads and stainless steel brake lines?

Gonna keep my stock calipers (rebuild em), get a pair of front Hawks (10's) for the track, and replace my lines while I'm at it.

Any suggestions on where to purchase em?

Ouch... $190 for the non-M HT-10s?? I thought they were way cheaper than that...

i ended up buying Hawk HPS pads for all 4 corners of my car for 130 shipped from www.buybrakes.com I searched and searched and found them to be the cheapest. You might as well check them out and you can save 10 bucks off your order right now as well.

They seem to have a pretty good discount on the HPS, but I'm looking for a race pad... he said they're getting set up to carry that line, probably won't have it for about a month or so tho.

Noticed that you're in the south...watch out with HP+ pads. They're really not cut out for track duty AND the heat. I was at a track event two months ago with 104 degree ambient temps. The HP+ pads lasted 2 laps before I had very bad pad deposits.

check www.brakeswap.com. No idea on prices, I don't use Hawks, but get my fluids, pads and lines from them.

    Yup, that's the going rate.

You may want to consider Carbotech. The XP10 may be a good option for you if it's your first time on track pads on a relatively heavy car with lack of ducting.

HT-10s are expensive but they are damn worth it. they rock on the track, at least compared to my Hp+ pads.

i got mine from bimmerworld, but the SS lines were a bit of a struggle to get them in place, because they were about 5mm too short. they've worked fine since then, though

anyone want to offer a guess on how long HT-10's will last in DE's?
(HPS's lasted me 3 weekends (RRR, Barber, VIR-N) and about 5K miles)

    thanks for the advise

Tim, given that you're still quite new to track and all, I'd recommend upgrading the pads progressively.

Here's a tip on installing the SS lines, remove the caliper from the wheel then connect the line to the caliper, reinstall caliper. Easier then trying to stretch the brake line to connect it.

No one beats their prices. Unfortunately Hawk requires all dealers to post retail prices. I suggest calling these guys and talking to them. They cut me a SWEET deal. Talk to Walter, tell him Ahmad sent you.

Yeah? Everybody told me that either you have street pads, or you have track pads, no sense getting a "combo" cuz they suck at both... and when I called Hawk, the guy there said no sense getting an HP-8, just get the 10.

Its probably not a good idea to use your HT10 pads for normal street driving. Not only are they noisey and dirty but they are too expensive to waste for street use. Get another set of Axxis Ultimates for street and change them out for track events.

On my Spec E30 car I can get about 4+ race weekends out of the fronts and 8+ from the rears. Keep in mind that my e30 is much lighter than your e36.

thanks Ken, yes HT-10's would be track ONLY. I stepped it back to mintex street pads for daily use. and now something for track use.

ok, just looking for a balpark idea as to how long race pads might last
$190 for be a little much for one weekend of use, but then again its cost money to have this much fun

it really depends on a lot of factors....braking style, speed and power of your car, type of track and top speed you reach, presence or absence of cooling ducts. i got about 5 weekends on my HP+ and will probably get as much or more on my HT-10.

    FYI-

If you are a NASA member you get 20% off of Hawks and Porterfields from Porterfield in Irvine.

Thanks... already contacted him. He seems pretty compeditive, but I didn't realize they cost THAT much. I think I'm gonna have to stay with a more aggressive street pad for now, I can't justify putting that much $$ into pads, it's better spent elsewhere.

I would put pads (and rotors to use with them) above any suspension or motor upgrades.

Within reason, but yes. Absolutely no point in anyone going with a Spec VR their first track day for example.
