E36 M3 'vert vs. new Mustang GT

Going to work this AM, I was in the left lane, when far in front of me I see this new Mustang GT move in the left lane somewhat aggressively.

Traffic slowed down in the left lane, so I decided to let my self coast quickly to catch up, in case he wanted to play...

There was less traffic in the center lane (go figure), and I was still in 4th (could've been in third), so I signaled to go in that lane, when Mr. Stang opened it up, darted in front of me, and accelerated hard. Nice sound! I followed suit, but was not in the right spot in the powerband so he dusted me, but I got close enough when he slowed down that he knew I was willing to play.

He got stuck behind some other car, just long enough for me to slow down to 75-80ish, so I was good to go in third. As soon as the car in front of him, started moving, I rev-matched to third, and mashed the fun pedal exactly at the same time as he did.

Much to my surprise, he didn't ass-rape me. Sure, he got away, but slowly, gaining steadily, but at a much slower pace I thought he would. From that sweet spot in 3rd to the very end of 4th gear (I had to brake, shifting to 5th woulda been risky), he gained maybe 2-3 car lengths or so.

I was surprised since my 'vert is heavy and is bone stock aside from an ITG intake.

My guess is, M50 manifold, exhaust, some software and pulleys and it should be much closer.

It was fun, I gave the guy a thumbs up after that, he returned the gesture with a big smile.

Wow you kept up with an S197 GT? Those E36 M3s are damn strong for their age.

I dunno, the new one. And I didn't keep up, he won. But from 75 or so, I actually got raped a lot worse by a WRX. The difference is, I catched the WRX at 105; I didn't catch this one, not even at 115.

Yeah the new ones are the S197, but you kept up DECENTLY and your car's almost 10 years older and not running off an Amerikkkan V8.

This sounds like a story I could be posting soon since my buddy has an 05 GT that I haven't ran against yet. Nice run. I should know what to expect now since I basically have the same car as yours minus an intake. Those GT's do have a nice sound WOT.

    Just a data point...

I ran a co-worker's '05 Pony with my E30/S50 when the Pony was stock, and ran dead nuts even to 120. He put down 270rwhp on the same dyno that I put down 226rwhp. From a stop and from a roll. Multiple trys.

With a 93 octane reflash (and raised limiter), CAI, and exhuast, He gets me by a car to 120 mostly done in his 4th gear. He's putting down 296 rwhp now. Multiple try's from a 45 roll.

Anybody that say's the new Stangs are weak Up Top are in denial. His car is as quick as another co-workers 300C-SRT8 which pulls me about the same, and they trap 106-108 on the average.
