In my on going quest for winter tires I am now wondering why ppl buy a wheel/tire package instead of just tires.
IE I found wheels/tires but they are between $832-$1200+, when I think I can just get winter tires for about half that. Is there any advantage to buying both? And the packages I looked at were both smaller in diamter and height(hence don't look quite as cool)...
thx
I think people do it strictly for convenience. They can swap back and forth as needed with no trip to the tire store... Some people here run really large diameter wide width wheels with ultra-low profile tires. Even if they made winter/snow tires that would fit, they wouldn't be a good idea.

Well, here in Jersey where we don't get all that much snow, having another set of wheels for my snows allows me to swap back and forth whenever I want in less than 30 minutes. Heck, I did it Tuesday morning before work because there was a chance that we'd see some snow on the ground starting late that evening.
Then again, I do have 14 wheels and 13 tires.
