I have a used sunroof motor out of a 98 M3 for sale. It was in perfect working condition when removed. I believe this will fit any year E36.

I'm no expert on fitment, but from doing a quick search, it seems like the motors out of the later cars will fit any year, but the early motors wont work on the later cars due to the auto-open function.
